Anyone make it to the Mach Loop this summer? Post your shots in the comments if so! Hope you got luckier than me when I visited earlier this year.

This week saw Aston Villa win a European trophy for the first time in 44 years. Unable to join my dad in Istanbul for the final, I was at the parade in Birmingham, soaking up the atmosphere and hopefully capturing the spirit.

Football is more than what happens on the pitch. Football unites people; families and strangers. A unity, a bond, a belonging, a tribe that leaves demographic, politics and class system at the door and where the only religion is the club. A shared love that might be the only thing in common with their bloodline.

Chatting to fans all day from all walks of life was a reminder of how important a football club is to people’s lives. A great leveller that sees everyone win and lose together.

Supporting a club with your lineage is a rite of passage and a privilege. Players and owners come and go, but the supporters remain for eternity. From Holte Enders to Holte Enders in the Sky, via the rollercoaster of success; a ride that you never get off. Sometimes, heroes are both players (or manager) and fellow supporter; Ian Taylor, Jack Grealish, Stan Collymore, Dean Smith - all lived our dreams.

Villa is a huge football club but not one that enjoys global saturation. I see another Villa fan outside Birmingham and it feels special. We will always be that way, regardless of our success and any future success. And that’s the way we like it.

Watching the final with my kids and my mum was something I’ll never forget. From standing on a milk crate on the Holte, to my living room adorned in claret and blue for the Europa League Final, the Villa is a part of our fabric.

Thank you, Unai šŸ’œšŸ¦
