I've just returned from a very productive trip to the Outer Hebrides where Cat and I were trying to capture images of some of the plentiful wildlife up there at this time of the year. One of our main targets were Corncrakes and thankfully there were many calling in the beautiful machair grasslands. All images taken from my vehicle using 840mm and 1200mm focal lengths. We were extremely fortunate to see a female corncrake lead her ten tiny black chicks across the road in front of us (with my truck blocking the road until they'd all crossed safely!). In the close-up image you can see the patterned nictitating membrane covering the eye, something that seems to happen each time the bird utters its very loud and distinctive raspy call.
