🌻 SUNFLOWER TRAIL 2026 – PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION WINNERS 🌻

We are delighted to introduce our 🥉 3rd Place Winner 🥉 of the Sunflower Trail 2026 Photography Competition!

📸 3rd Place: Ladybird - Selective Colour
👤 Photographer: Ben Weeks

I rewarded this one for its processing skill as much as its capture. The selective colour treatment is cleanly done — no haloing or masking errors around what's a genuinely fiddly organic edge in the ladybird's legs and antennae.

The underlying photograph holds up too: the ladybird is tack-sharp, with attractive shallow depth of field bringing out the fine hairs and texture on the surrounding bud. I also liked that the sunflower bud's radiating leaf lines pull your eye straight to the ladybird — that's a deliberate compositional choice, not an accidental crop.

Huge congratulations to Ben Weeks for this creative shot and expert editing! 🐞✨

🌻 SUNFLOWER TRAIL 2026 – PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION WINNERS 🌻

We are excited to announce our 🥈 2nd Place Winner 🥈 of the Sunflower Trail 2026 Photography Competition!

📸 2nd Place: Bee in Flight
👤 Photographer: Sophie Hale

This is a genuinely hard shot to pull off. Freezing a bee mid-flight while keeping the eye and body sharp, but still showing motion blur in the wings, takes precise focus tracking and exactly the right shutter speed — I know from experience that shots like this usually come after a lot of failed attempts.

The exposure and colour are lovely, and the shallow depth of field gives a clean, uncluttered yellow background that really isolates the subject.

Huge congratulations to Sophie Hale for capturing this amazing action shot! 🐝✨

🌻 SUNFLOWER TRAIL 2026 – PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION WINNER 🌻

We are thrilled to announce the 🌟 1st Place Winner 🌟 of our 2026 Sunflower Trail Photography Competition!

📸 1st Place: Bird in the Sunflowers
👤 Photographer: Eden De Leon

This was my clear winner on technical grounds. I was drawn straight to the way the photographer has used a wide aperture to isolate the bird within a single, precise plane of focus, while the foreground and background sunflower heads dissolve into soft, warm bokeh — that takes accurate focus placement and doesn't forgive even a small error.

What really elevates it for me is the light: shooting into low, backlit sun is one of the hardest conditions to expose correctly, and here the highlights are held without blowing out while the bird still reads with real detail rather than dropping to a silhouette.

The sunflower heads on either side also frame the subject naturally, so there's compositional thought here as well as technical control. And of course, you can't direct a wild bird into position — that split-second timing is part of what makes this shot special."

A massive congratulations to Eden De Leon for capturing such an extraordinary moment! 👏🎉

Thank you to everyone who submitted their incredible photos to this year's competition! .

🌻 Sunflower Trail Photography Trail 2026 — Results Are In! 🌻

What an incredible year for the Sunflower Trail Photography Competition:) We had over 250 amazing entries, and honestly, judging was really hard this time — the standard just keeps getting better every year. Thank you to absolutely everyone who took part. 📸

We were thrilled to introduce the People's Choice Award this year, which celebrated the people at the sunflower trail — all the wonderful family moments, laughter and memories captured out in the fields.

The awards you'll see announced over the next few posts are judged purely on the photography itself — technical skill, composition and creativity.

And on top of all that — together we raised over £500 through entries, which will be going to Dorset County Hospital Charity's Emergency and Critical Care Appeal, supporting the new Emergency Department and Critical Care Unit currently being built at Dorset County Hospital. Thank you all for your generosity! 💛

The prize-giving will be announced as soon as we have a confirmed date — watch this space!

Mike reached out needing fresh publicity photos for his upcoming music concerts, and we collaborated on a look that felt creative, timeless, and completely natural to his performance style.
He left a lovely Google review for me :) …
“Andy was very easy to work with, proficient yet relaxed. He listened to my suggestions and came up with creative ideas. I’m very pleased with the results.” — Mike Denham.

Whether it’s headshots, performance publicity, or personal branding, a relaxed environment is always where the best portraits happen.

Witnessing this incredible moment at Sunflower Trail :) It was the absolute highlight of my week. ☀️
The golden hour light at the Sunflower Trail was the perfect backdrop for this surprise proposal. There was so much love and genuine joy in the air, especially with the little one cheering them on.

Had a great time at the Sunflower Trail tonight. Maiden Castle Farm. The light is very eerie during an eclipse :)) The shadows you get through foliage create little crescents of light :)
