𝗣𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘆

Zillebeke, Belgium

Sanctuary Wood is a location in Zillebeke, Belgium, that gained its name in late 1914 when British troops used it for rest and shelter, believing it to be a "sanctuary". This initial peace was short-lived, and the wood became a front-line position and a site of intense fighting, notably during the Battle of Mount Sorrel in June 1916. Today, a preserved WWI trench system and a museum are located there, preserving original artifacts and a section of the original trench network. This image is of one of the original stumps that has remained since the end of the war.

St Paul's from the shore of the Thames

I decided to go to London for a whole day getting to know my newly acquired Leica Q2 Camera. The plan was to use the Tube once or twice only and walk the streets. This view of St Paul's Cathedral was taken from the shore of the River Thames near the Tate Modern Gallery. 1/500 F8

I was just strolling around, taking a few tourist shots in Baden Baden, when this kid ran into the frame. It put me in mind of a Steve McCurry shot, of a kid running into the back streets of Jodhpur, so I shot a quick frame.

Ratcliffe Power Station

My late father took me to visit the power station when I was only 5 years old or so, and standing inside the cooling tower is something I will never forget. The colossal scale certainly made its mark. When it was announced last year that the site was being decommissioned, I decided to visit and take some photographs (Inspired, of course, by the work of Michael Kenna!). I liked the moody clouds and the separation the steam causes between the cooling towers and the chimney stack as it looms in the background, watching over us all..
