Hi, I'm lauren and I started Lauren Shaw Photography right here in Dalry, Ayrshire. And today, I’d love to share my story of why I started and why newborn & family photography matter so much to me.

I studied art and design at college, then trained in photography to degree level. There were paths into commercial work, architecture, fashion, but none for newborn or family photography, the thing my heart was drawn to.

Whilst studying, I worked as a wedding photographer for four years. I loved the craft, but the loud, fast pace never sat easily with who I am. I'm gentle, patient, and I needed my work to feel that way too.

I started my photography business with photoshoots for newborns and families from a spare room at home, but it just wasn't working. When my family offered me the chance of a studio space right here in Dalry, my home town, I threw everything into making it happen. It felt like the perfect leap.

Dalry will always feel special to me, it's the town that raised me. But what matters most is what happens in my studio, helping parents like you hold onto these fleeting first days before they slip away.

I trained 1:1 with Fru and Maddy, two of the most respected names in newborn photography, so every baby in my care is safe, comfortable, and gently held. Siblings and pets are always welcome too.

Hi, I'm Lauren, and I run Lauren Shaw Photography in Dalry, Ayrshire. My main passion is newborn and family photography, and so many mums tell me this.

You meant to book weeks ago, but you never got round to it. Then suddenly your baby's three weeks old and you're wondering if you've already missed the window for a photography session. It happens to many people, and it's not because you weren't organised enough.

So to make things simple, here’s what we do differently. You can book any time during pregnancy, using just your due date, ideally around your twenty week scan. Your date simply floats around the time when the baby's due, and once they arrive, we confirm the exact date together, usually within the first three weeks.

That means one less thing to think about once your baby's here, and real peace of mind that this precious moment is already protected before you've even met them.

If you keep telling yourself you'll sort it later, there’s a chance you’ll miss the timing because of the rush. Booking now means you can relax, knowing it's already sorted, and you'll never have to wonder what if.

There's nothing quite like watching a family fall even more in love as they welcome a new addition.

It was such a joy to be back with this gorgeous family for baby Max's newborn session.

I've had the pleasure of photographing big brother William before, so getting to capture this next chapter felt so special.

Max slept through every single click of the shutter, while William couldn't stop planting kisses on his little brother's head.

That's my Back to School (and Nursery Starts!) mini sessions officially wrapped for 2026! 💛

Huge thank you to every single one of my lovely clients, familiar faces and new ones, for bringing your little ones to the studio. Here are my favourite images from each session.

To every mum getting uniforms ready and lunches packed tonight, tomorrow is a big one. Whether it's their very first day at nursery or another year further into "big school," I hope you take a minute to really look at them in that uniform, because they will never be this small in it again.

That's exactly why I love capturing these sessions. Long after the tears (yours, not theirs 😉) and the nerves have faded, you'll still have that little face, that gap-toothed grin, that "I'm so ready for this" look, frozen in time.

Loved seeing the Toy Story trend make an appearance too this year, that little bag matched my book props perfectly! Nothing beats capturing them with their very first school bag, so personal to them at that age, a tiny detail they'll look back on one day and remember exactly how excited they felt.

Wishing every single one of them the most wonderful first day tomorrow. You've got this, mums and dads! 💛
