This is what a session becomes.

Not a record of an afternoon. Not a digital file forgotten on a device. A fine art portrait made on location, finished in the edit, printed in Scotland.
The German Wirehaired Pointer is a working dog. Bred for the field, the hill, the water. This is what that looks like when you take it out of the field and put it on a wall.

The animal you love, where you'll see them every morning. That's what this work is for.

Some dogs own every room they walk into.

This is one of them. A black German Shepherd, photographed on location in Scotland. The misty background behind him is something I added in the edit. Deliberately, carefully until the image became what I could see it wanted to be.

That's the work. Not just the capture. The edit is where the photograph becomes a portrait.

Giving back to the communities that have welcomed me matters to me.

Every quarter I’m donating a portrait experience to a Scottish charity or community organisations for their fundraising events, galas, or silent auction. A fine art dog or horse portrait session.

I’m starting with the fieldsports and rural community world because that’s were some of the most extraordinary animals and the most extraordinary people I’ve encountered in Scotland have come from.

If you know a fieldsports charity, a rural community organisation or an estate-connected cause with an upcoming fundraising event or auction I’d love to hear about them.

Drop their name in the comments or send me a message directly. Let’s use this work to support the organisations doing something that matters.

I am not a content creator. I am a photographer.

I am not chasing a trend, a format or a number. I am not making something to be scrolled pas in half a second and forgotten in one.

I am making photographs of the dog who won't stay still or the horse who knows the camera or the animal who is the whole heart of someone's home. The kind of image you print, frame and still stop in front of years from now long after they have gone.

Content is made for the feed. Photographs are made to connect us to that moment.

That's the work. That's the whole point.

Tuesday evening 25th August. 7.15pm. One hour. Free.

Here's what actually happens in the Training Collective:
We cover five natural setups that work with your dog's behaviour rather than against it. We talk about what the light is doing and how to use it. We look at the half-second of intention before you press the button that changes everything.

You leave with a PDF of everything covered. You get an invitation into the Paws & Pixels community. And you leave with at least one thing that immediately changes how you photograph your dog.

Drop a 🐾 below or send me a message and I'll send you the link directly.

You have thousands of photographs of your dog on your phone.

And if you're honest, very few of them actually look like your dog. Not the real version. Not the one you see every morning.

The gap between the photographs you have and the ones you actually want isn't about the camera. It's about the seeing. And seeing can be taught.

This Tuesday evening I'm running a free online session
— five easy poses for dog photography. One hour. Completely free. Practical from the first minute.

Register via the link in bio, or drop a 🐾 in the comments and I'll send you the Zoom link directly.

Autumn sessions are open.

Golden hour is landing lower and longer every week. The light in August and September is some of the most beautiful of the year, warm, directional, the kind that makes portraits look like paintings.

If you've been thinking about a portrait session for your dog or horse, this is the season for it.
The discovery call is free, twenty minutes, completely no obligation.

Karen has her coffee with Buddy every morning.

Not in memory. In his portrait on the kitchen wall. He's gone. But he's still at the table. Still part of the morning.

I photographed Buddy because Karen is a friend and her husband called and I didn't hesitate. At the time I was concentrating entirely on dog photography. Horses weren't part of the plan.

That session changed everything. That day is why the Senior Horse Book exists. That portrait is why I do this work.

If your animal has a story worth keeping and they do. I'd love to hear it.
