Wishing everyone a Happy Valentine’s Day whether you're in a relationship or not, love is all around. It took patience (and a lot of luck) to capture this perfect moment through a waterfall, and I’ve been holding onto it for nearly a year just for today!

Madeira’s mountain weather is as unpredictable as it gets – one minute, the sun is scorching, and the next, a cold rain sweeps in. You learn to dress for every kind of weather. The locals think we're mad hiking these peaks in winter, but after "summers" in the British mountains, I'm no stranger to the wildest of forecasts!

Obviously, Cornwall has the best coastline in the world… but I have to admit, some parts of Madeira come pretty close! Miradouro da Ponta do Rosto served up some seriously dramatic cliffs, turquoise waters, and a dreamy, hazy atmosphere—almost enough to make me question my loyalty. Almost.

At the start of the PR 1 - Vereda do Areeiro, I was gutted to find it closed due to landslide risks. What shocked me more was how many unprepared tourists ignored the warnings. The authorities now charge full rescue costs for those walking closed routes; a fair response to protect safety teams. It’s crucial to follow local advice when travelling. This trail looked stunning, and I hope to return one day to hike it safely.

While we might have avoided the worst of Storm Éowyn, Storm Herminia has hit us head-on! Kynance Cove took the full brunt of it today, with waves crashing like thunder and winds that felt relentless. This was one of the most intense shoots I’ve ever done, battling to stay anchored against the sheer force of nature. Absolutely unforgettable!

After nearly a year away, I’m finally sharing my photography again. This is Fanal Forest, Madeira – a place that felt like stepping into a dream, now brought back to life from the depths of my hard drive.

The truth is, I’ve had a tough time with social media. The rise of AI 'art,' algorithms that seem to bury anything that isn't a 5-second reel, and the frustration of seeing my work reach just a fraction of the audience I spent years building all made me lose heart. So, I stepped away, deleted the app, and spent time offline.

But whilst the break was good for me (despite losing over 1000 followers), I couldn’t ignore the reality that letting my work sit unseen on a hard drive meant it was reaching no one – even less than with Instagram’s frustrating algorithm. Even if it’s only a handful of people, or just one person who connects with this image; that’s reason enough to share it.

So here’s to 2025: finding a healthier balance with social media, and celebrating real photography and art in a world drowning in the artificial. If you care about authenticity too, a like, comment, or share makes a difference; it helps keep real art alive.

Thanks for sticking around. Let me know what you think of this comeback shot.

September began with a burst of sunshine and unusually hot weather, and here's a glimpse of the beautiful coastline near Porthcurno, Cornwall, UK. It feels like a slice of summer, doesn't it? What a twist after a lackluster season! But now, as we approach the end of September, there's a subtle crispness in the air.

Who's with me in welcoming autumn? I'm looking forward to those Autumn sunrises and woodland scenes.
