Wildlife and nature photography is all consuming for me. It’s almost like meditation or mindfulness. I can sit for hours waiting for wildlife to “do it’s own thing”. I’m intending to open an online shop shortly to be able to offer wall art, prints and cards. Watch this space!

An early morning in Bushy Park, with thick fog hanging over the lake.

There was hardly any wind, so the water was lovely and still apart from the ripples made by this young swan as it fed.

I liked the way the trees and their reflections faded into the fog.

Definitely worth the early start!

Another award for these two young kestrels!

Having already received a Highly Commended from The Society of Photographers, I’m really pleased that this photograph has now also received a Bronze Award from the Guild of Photographers.

It’s always satisfying when a photograph you’re particularly fond of does well in competitions, and this one has now been recognised by two different organisations.

I’m rather chuffed!

A Bronze Award for this rather splendid grey heron!

I’m delighted that this portrait has received a Bronze Award from the Guild of Photographers.

Herons are such wonderful birds to photograph, with their extraordinary eyes, impressive beaks and occasionally rather wild hairstyles!

I’m particularly pleased with the colours and detail in this image, so it’s lovely to see it recognised.

The red deer rut hadn’t quite got into full swing when we visited Bushy Park, but some of the stags were already making themselves heard!

There was plenty of roaring going on, with the males beginning to advertise their presence and size up the competition. Roaring is an important part of the rut, allowing stags to assess one another’s strength without necessarily resorting to a fight.

You can't miss their bellowing though.

A couple more photographs from my morning at Bushy Park.

With all the roaring and activity during the rut, it’s easy to overlook the quieter moments. One stag was standing beneath the trees, giving me a chance to admire his antlers, while another was making his way through the water.

It’s remarkable that red deer grow a completely new set of antlers every year, shedding them in spring and regrowing them over the summer.

I came away with rather more photographs than I’d intended, but that’s hardly unusual!

A rather foggy start to my morning at Bushy Park in early October!

We could hear the red deer stags roaring somewhere in the distance, but actually finding them was another matter.

As the fog gradually began to lift, the deer started to emerge from the mist. Not the conditions I’d been hoping for, but I rather liked the muted colours and the autumn bracken.

Sometimes the weather has other ideas, and you just have to work with what you’re given.

A little bit of good news for this Friday…

Really pleased to have received a Highly Commended from The Societies for this image of two young kestrels.

I photographed these two around the time they fledged. They’d reached that wonderful stage where they were beginning to look like proper kestrels, but were still tucked up together in the safety of the old tree.

I love the completely different expressions. One looking bright-eyed and curious, while the other appears distinctly unimpressed!

It's always lovely when an image that I enjoyed taking gets a little recognition too. Thank you!

This World Elephant Day, we celebrate their strength, intelligence and family bonds—and the wild spaces they call home. May future generations know elephants as a living presence, not just a photograph.

I managed to miss Threatened Species Day on Monday, but it seems a good reason to share this beautiful black rhino I photographed in Kenya.

Black rhinos are Critically Endangered, which makes every sighting in the wild feel incredibly special.

They are such extraordinary animals. Powerful, prehistoric-looking and surprisingly graceful. Seeing one walking towards us was one of those moments when I was very aware of just how lucky I was to be there, camera in hand.

Hopefully, thanks to the conservation work being done in Kenya and elsewhere in Africa, encounters like this will be possible for generations to come.
