We are the national development agency for photography and lens based media in Wales. Established in 1978, Ffotogallery presents an ongoing programme of temporary exhibitions by Wales-based and international artists, focusing on photographic practice in its broadest sense. Ffotogallery is the lead organisation delivering Diffusion - Cardiff International Festival of Photography, a biennial photography festival programming across the city of Cardiff, spanning exhibitions, events, film screenings and family workshops.

Artist, Holly Davey will share her ongoing research and art practice into the occupation of archives and collection spaces by women artists. At the core of her practice are ideas surrounding absence, place & the body. She produces installations that include photography, sculpture, text, video and performance. In this lunchtime talk, she will discuss her approach to several commissions including the recent ongoing development of a performance work for the British School at Rome 125th birthday celebration in November 2026. This research focuses on the re:seeing of women sculptors who attended the school as part of the sculpture prize. Davey will share her archival findings and the collaborative development of this research into an artwork. This research is supported partly by Wales Arts International, The Arts Council of Wales and The British School at Rome.

A bit about the artist:

Holly Davey is an artist and researcher based between Cardiff and London, whose practice explores women’s histories, archives and the representation of women artists within museum and collection spaces. Through photography and archival research, she brings overlooked stories to light, examining how disability, gender and social expectations have shaped women’s artistic lives. Her work has been exhibited at venues including UCL Art Museum, Fruitmarket in Edinburgh and the National Museum Wales. Nominated for a Paul Hamlyn Visual Arts Award in 2025, Holly has over 25 years’ experience as an art educator, facilitator and workshop leader.
