TREES FOR STREETS - Cambridge

Earlier in the summer, I was contacted and asked by the charity Trees for Cities to capture some of their tree sponsors for their Trees for Streets tree-planting scheme in Cambridge. Trees for Cities is a UK charity working with communities, schools, local authorities and partners to plant and care for trees in towns and cities to create healthier and greener cities to live in.

The charity is very close to my heart as it was where I did my work placement whilst studying for a Masters at university, and subsequently volunteered and worked at after I graduated with an Environmental degree (before I transitioned to becoming a professional photographer!). It was a complete full circle and out-of-the-blue moment for me, and the Marketing Manager and I did have a laugh about it! After all, this was 20+ years ago and the charity had grown a lot since then, so I don't know anyone there now and she didn't know about me until she looked up my photography services.

With the long, summer heatwave this year putting pressure on wildlife, trees and the wider environment, I was also helping the charity to document in pictures how urban trees were doing in the drought in and around Cambridgeshire.

Here are a couple of informative articles they've written about it and how people could help future-proof trees in the hotter summers that is predicted to occur more frequently from now on.

But finally, yay for rain today!

Recent rain has brought relief, but the UK drought isn't over. Find out what prolonged dry weather means for urban trees, wildlife and our towns and…

HOLME FEN

Photos from when we walked around Holme Fen last year. One of my favourite nature spots that is right on our doorstep. It's a nationally important nature reserve with the largest silver birch woodland in the country. It's also a part of the Wildlife Trust's Great Fen project restoring the fen landscape to provide a vital and connected haven for wildlife and people.

So heartbreaking now to see the wildfire devastation currently happening there with firefighters working over the past few days in over 30 degrees heat to bring the fire under control.

Holding on.

One minute they’re clinging close to you for comfort, then the next minute they’re eager to show their independence, follow their peers and create their own path in life.

Exhausting.
Remarkable.
And endlessly fascinating.

We try our best to hold on to these moments, yet so much about parenthood is about letting go - albeit in stages - as I’m learning all too well this week.

So, savour every moment and the memories ✨✨

And if you want a reminder of what those precious moments look and feel like, as well as see yourself in your own family photos, then I’m here to be your very own documentary family photographer.

Creating photographs of now, framed in time to tell your story ✨✨

Book your family photoshoot today. Let's talk. Don't wait.

Phew, it’s hot out there! Thinking back to Amie & George’s wedding on the Suffolk coast and what a wonderful day it was - a celebration of love, joy and union. It took place in the village and beach setting where the bride grew up and had made lots of happy memories; new ones since added from that very special day.

Counting down the days now as I look forward to heading back to this beautiful part of the country soon.

Happy Hump Day! Sliding a quick post here with a little 👋 to new and existing followers. It’s the middle of wedding season and family session work at the moment. The gorgeous weather we had recently have played a hand in lots of lovely bookings, so apologies for my radio silence while I am busy chomping through the editing pile.

Loved this photo from a recent nursery session photographing children in their outdoor play area. It was fun to capture their sense of play in the photos.
