That unmistakable silhouette side-on—loud, smoky, and full of character. One of those aircraft that never gets old.

Captured during a training deployment a few years back—seeing them everywhere lately really puts moments like this into perspective.

A very special moment from RIAT 2018 🇬🇧✈️

The Trenchard Formation — made up of the legendary Avro Lancaster, Douglas C-47 Skytrain and two Supermarine Spitfire — flying together to celebrate 100 years of the Royal Air Force at the Royal International Air Tattoo 2018.

Named after Hugh Trenchard, who played a pivotal role in establishing the RAF, it felt like a truly fitting tribute to a century of British air power.

Fun fact — I actually grew up not far from the Trenchard family manor, which somehow makes seeing this formation even more special. Moments like this are why RIAT 2018 will always stand out.

To mark 100 years of the RAF, nine Eurofighter Typhoon took to the skies in a powerful mass flypast at Royal International Air Tattoo.

Nine Typhoons. One formation. One very special anniversary.

The sound alone was something else — that unmistakable Typhoon roar rolling across Fairford as they came through together. A proper goosebumps moment and a fitting tribute to a century of the Royal Air Force.

A Dakota returning to Devon skies.

The Douglas C-47 Skytrain “Drag ’em Oot” coming in to land at Dunkeswell Aerodrome during the D-Day 80th anniversary commemorations.

While Dunkeswell itself wasn’t a Dakota base during WWII, just minutes before this landing she had carried out a paratroop drop over nearby RAF Upottery — a powerful nod to the role these aircraft played 80 years ago.

To see her arrive on a historic wartime airfield for refuelling, after recreating that moment in the skies above Devon, felt incredibly poignant. The sound, the shape, the history — it’s impossible not to pause and reflect.

Some aircraft are more than aviation. They’re memory.

Colour in the Fairford skies 🇩🇰✨

The Danish F-16 returning after its display at Royal International Air Tattoo, wearing one of the most eye-catching schemes of the weekend.

There’s something about seeing a jet like this coming back in — display flown, crowd won over, paintwork glowing in the light. The Danes always know how to put on a show, and this one was no exception.

Fast, loud, and impossible to ignore.

There are big aircraft… and then there’s the Boeing B-52 Stratofortress.

Seeing this icon perform at Royal International Air Tattoo was something special. For an aircraft of that size, the display was powerful, surprisingly dynamic, and commanded attention from the very first pass.

That unmistakable shape against the Fairford sky is one that never gets old. A true heavyweight of aviation — and still stealing the show.
