Warning - 5 minute read!
Just popped up in memories from Sat 9th May 2015 - WEDDING at Bury St Edmunds registry office. T'was my First Ever paid wedding. Just the ceremony then some shots over in Abbey Gardens - probably £195.
Reminiscing about what's happened since then....
317 weddings ranging from several where I turned up with my wife and we were witnesses (so just 4 of us) with me doing less than an hour of photography through to super elegant top tier weddings at places like Then many many really laid back ones at pubs like and .
I've attended about 20 wedding fairs and met so many lovely couples looking for suppliers for their weddings - one on a rainy day in March had just 4 couples in the whole afternoon and others it was 4 hours of non stop chatting to couples.
I've done - dunno - probably 150 engagement shoots at places from a beach on a 30c sunny day to a rainy night in Ipswich.
I remember Josh and Rebecca's wedding in December 22 at St Andrews church in Finborough - top temperature for the day? -2c but really bright sun all day - reception in a pair of tipee's and the heater packed up for a couple of hours - never been so cold in my life! But the African dancers and theme made it a day I'll never forget.
I've loved the woodland weddings I've done like Meredith and Dan's at Shepherds cottage. Perfect summers day in a beautiful setting.
And then there was of course Covid!
2020 should have been my most busy year with over 30 weddings booked at the start of the year. Connie's wedding was on 1st February - prep just outside Norwich then a London Transport Bus to Norwich Castle and then bus back to reception in Little Melton. There's this guy on the bus next to me looking really ill. Ten days later I feel really really ill - Covid is now sweeping the country and being acknowledged as a pandemic. Yea - I have Covid. Never been so ill in my life - lost over a stone and barely out of bed for 10 days. Fortunately restrictions mean weddings are cancelled so my illness doesn't affect anyone's wedding photography.
Then 10th July 2021 and ALL restriction are lifted - the flood gates open and in 5 months I do over 30 weddings!
Awards! Yes. Wedisimo rated one of my weddings as GOLD. 4 Time winner of Hitched's Wedding Photographer Suffolk award. Published in magazines countless times. over 80 5star reviews.
Then there's all the cameras and lenses I've bought, used and sold. I've used Nikon (mainly) but also Sony, Fuji and Leica. Most have gone with my favourite Nikon Z7ii, Fuji Xt5 and Leica M10 surviving to this day and what I use now for my weddings but with the addition of 2 35mm film cameras for real film photography.
And now my coffee is stone cold so heat that up and back to proper work (no - anything to do with weddings is pure joy)
And just in case you wonder I have no slots left this year but 2027 is currently about half booked....
