When your son gets married and you’re off duty, but you can’t help taking along your camera. 😆

Here are a few shots from last Friday when my eldest son, Sam, married his beautiful American bride, Jess in New York.

And what a fun & beautiful wedding … so relaxed and joy filled. The ceremony, which was held at Brooklyn City Hall felt quite surreal at times, nothing like any registry office wedding I’ve attended in the UK, but that only made it even more memorable.

Amid all the laughs and informality, one thing was beautifully clear: Sam and Jess couldn’t be more in love or more serious about the future they’re building together. We are so happy to welcome Jess into our family.

It was a pleasure to finally meet Jess’ parents Valerie & Jim, and the rest of her lovely family; who were all so welcoming. We’re looking forward to reciprocating their generous hospitality one day.

And it was particularly special that one of Sam’s dearest friends, Leia, and her partner Jasper made it to New York despite Leia being heavily pregnant ... true friendship.

Here’s to Sam and Jess — wishing you both a lifetime of love, laughter and happiness. ❤️

As the sunflowers fade and the sun slowly sets on summer, September arrives with that familiar back-to-school feeling… a fresh start, a new chapter, and, in my mind at least, a brand-new pencil case full of freshly sharpened pencils 😆.

I always think that September smells different too, the air is fresher and sweeter (anyone else think that?); and of course, as a pale ginger, I'm ready to welcome the cooler days.

After returning yesterday from a wonderful trip to New York, for my eldest son’s wedding to his beautiful American bride, I’m easing gently back into work today, not quite stepping up and cracking on just yet.

Are you feeling refreshed and ready for the final stretch of the year? This last quarter always seems to fly by, so once the fridge is restocked and the holiday washing is done, I’m ready to embrace the momentum.

Well, this was worth getting up early for! Last Friday I did a shoot at Christ College Cambridge, capturing the beautiful joinery work created by Precision Made Joinery in a recent refurbishment project. What a privilege to be able to see so many parts of this historic college. Just love how the new additions sit so comfortably against their older and more ancient counterparts.

I forgot to share this lovely 5⭐ Google review from after their first branding shoot with me back in June.

And the lovely thing is… it wasn’t their last. 😊

Your business doesn’t stay the same, it evolves

Hello August ☀️
Oh, my goodness summer is flying by!

What does August have in store for you?

I have quite an exciting month ahead … I have a two-day branding shoot next week, a full-day interiors shoot, a trip to Yorkshire for more catch ups and images for my personal photography “Friends” project, plus a few networking events throughout the month and… most exciting of all, at the end of the month, a trip to New York to see my eldest son get married to his gorgeous American fiancée. 😍

There is a saying “A son is a son 'til he gets a wife, but a daughter is a daughter all her life.” Somehow, I don’t think this will be the case, I believe, and hope, I am gaining a daughter not losing a son. After two sons and two stepsons (even our dog is male) I am more than ready to welcome a female into this family.🤣 💕

How is August shaping up for you?

When the world feels heavy, there’s something incredibly joyful about watching children dance on stage.

I photographed this show on the same day as the Elevate Dance show, and both were so beautifully produced …the routines, costumes, lighting and, of course, the performers were an absolute delight.

My branding photography work tends to go a little quieter in July, so I was grateful to fit these shows in earlier this month.

Stage photography is still quite new to me. I specialise in branding, but recently I’ve had the chance to explore a few different genres, including this stage shoot and several interiors shoots too.

Every business expert will tell you to niche and I do understand why, especially when it comes to marketing. But personally, I’m really enjoying trying new things, learning new skills and seeing where different opportunities take me.

So, I’d love to know: how important do you think niching really is? Is it better to keep your offering tight and focused, or to follow the enquiries and opportunities as they come?

Happy ! Ralph and I couldn’t resist marking the occasion with a little photo shoot… especially as he knows modelling comes with treats. In fact, if I’m a bit slow handing them out after every few shots, he gives me a bark to remind me. 🐾

National Dog Photography Day was started by the fabulous Kerry of Fur & Fables a brilliant commercial dog photographer. Kerry’s online Furdography course was one of the reasons I found my way back to photography, so today feels extra special.
Dogs and photography are two of my biggest passions, so let’s celebrate National Dog Photography Day by sharing a photo of your dog in the comments!

I’m so grateful when clients take the time to leave a review, and this lovely 5-star Google review from leather maker Karen really made my day.

Karen needed professional photos on a tight deadline, so we worked together to understand exactly what she needed, explored a few ideas over email, finalised a short shot list and planned the shoot.
