Crown Spindle Mill - Embsay near Skipton, North Yorkshire.

Originally built in the 1700s for cotton and spindle manufacturing, Crown Spindle Mill was later used for cotton and to***co packing during WWII.

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) predicted 'record sightings of mushrooms and toadstools across the UK this autumn'.

Forest fungi remain vital to woodland ecosystems, supporting biodiversity, soil health, and the intricate web of forest life.
They break down dead wood, recycle nutrients, and form mycorrhizal partnerships with trees, enabling forests to function and regenerate.

Here are a few pics of some of the fungal species we found on recent walks through the forest, where you'll find an extraordinary diversity of fungi, including mushrooms, toadstools, bracket fungi.

Whilst some mushrooms may be edible and delicious, others may be toxic or even deadly. Poisonous mushrooms can look like edible ones, so proper identification is essential before foraging any mushrooms for eating.

'Sunset over Morecambe Bay' - viewing from Quernmore, Lancashire.

As the sun set into the horizon, nature performed a masterpiece in illusion - the sky seemingly blazed with fiery shades of red and orange, turning the clouds into heavy, dark smoke.

Dunnockshaw Reservoir between Burnley and Rawtenstall in Lancashire, which was built in 1866 (resulting in the de-population of the village of Gambleside).

After the hot summer, the water level remains low in the reservoir.

Supermarine Spitfire and WW1 Royal Aircraft Factory SE5a, on display at Towneley Park for Armed Forces Day 2026.

The Spitfire is a full sized replica, built by Michael Whiteley from moulds of a real Spitfire. The SE5a is a full sized replica of the original aircraft.
