DEAD MANS HEART By Axl Malton

First of all, if you have this on your TBR, bump it to the top now. Don't be a dick like me and leave it 3 years before picking it up, it's incredible and does not deserve to be gathering dust on your bookshelf! 🖤🫀

Bruce is a heart surgeon, his teenage son is waiting for a heart transplant, he worries about this, a lot. Maybe too much. He keeps his son wrapped in cotton wool for fear of anything bad happening to him..

All the while his wife is keeping a secret, one that could tear the family apart, and cause a lot of heartbreak..

In another part of town, Aiden lives a sheltered life, one of fear, poverty and a hidden thirst..

Two very different stories of two very different families, running adjacent to each other, until they eventually blend together. Beautifully, darkly, disturbingly and unexpectedly.

A brutal and at times heartbreaking tale of Karma and revenge. An adrenaline fuelled, intense and exciting rollercoaster ride you won't want to end.

A smooth and descriptive narrative that paints perfect imagery and scenes, makes this a real page turner. It's detailed, fast paced, and completely gripping. The short, sharp chapters and perfectly paced storyline, alongside the tense expectation will have you on absolute tenterhooks.

It isn't extreme horror, but there are some NASTY kills in this one! 😁

It also took a pretty unexpected turn, and didn't go where I was thinking it would. And I loved that. A particularly chilling extra twist towards the end too, this book is everything a good horror book should be, I was utterly hooked. I just hope i never need a heart transplant! 😬

THE BARGAIN By Eric Butler Author

I first read, and thoroughly enjoyed, part one of this story in the Full Throttle anthology from the Uncomfortably Dark team. It was great to come back and continue where that one left off and I was not disappointed in the outcome in the slightest, it followed on perfectly and concluded satisfyingly.

Zelma has finally been granted her wish of becoming a mother, but the bargain she made has a price to pay, and that debt has come due…

We also get to meet the Grey Sisters, who are chilling, sinister, witchy women, that in my opinion could do with their own story! 🤞

It's immediately captivating, and flows smoothly and intriguingly, with beautifully descriptive visuals, terror, horror and good amounts of gore, its blood soaked and brutal too.

A very cool folk tale type twist to the legend of The Minotaur! 🖤

…is his latest encounter on this journey about to outsmart him? There seems to be something very different about this one….

Little Danny has a new friend, one that wants to take him away, and it's driving his mother insane. Strange events build until she needs to seek help….. and fast!

The story unfolds at a steadily increasing pace, alongside the action and scares. The visuals are fantastic, vividly realistic and terrifying.

It gave me goosebumps with its convincingly chilling and creepy atmosphere, and will definitely have you sleeping with the lights on! I had nightmares after reading this, but for me, that's always a bonus!

Boote is an absolute master of the written jump scare!!

Jon wakes up to find himself in a strange predicament, his memory slowly returns, and starts to haunt him and those around him.

A captivating sci-fi horror, full of mystery, action and gore!

The story is teased along brilliantly and tantalisingly, I devoured those pages so fast I didn't even stop to take many notes! It's action-packed, full throttle, exciting, and completely immersive. It's atmospheric, creepy, mysterious and suspenseful. It's everything!

Complete with an explosive, high octane finale, and a nice little twist that I would never have guessed!

Splatter is one story, written by four awesome authors, each section blending seamlessly into the next. This was a lot of, gory, brutal, messed up fun. Its also has a side of saucy! 😉 Everything I've come to love and expect from these fine and talented authors.

The story takes so many brilliantly fun twists and turns, keeping you hooked and flying through those pages so fast!

WONDERLAND By Angelique Jordonna.... Kyle's basement is her Wonderland. Not so for the guests she takes down there...
Kyle and her family are very close, her brothers are always looking out for her..
Dark family secrets. An acquired taste, and revenge are on the menu here, and they'll leave a nasty taste in your mouth.

THE PAST NEVER DIES By Rowland Bercy Jr.... The story takes a spooky, supernatural turn here. A brutal and hilarious exorcism takes place. A crazy, pi**ed off ghost intent on vengeance…. and one particularly chilling scene! Literally!

SOLO MISSION By Mick Collins.... Jacob only has two real friends, Geri and Remy. Remy is very special, and when one friend gets hurt, the other steps in to help seek revenge.
Here we are introduced to the Collins’ family's arch nemesis, the Redfields, who are rather nasty pieces of work..

"What in the name of Jehovah's all holy right testicle is going on down here?" - Granny Matty pretty much sums up the whole book with this sentence! 😂

IT AIN'T OVER 'TIL IT'S OVER By Chisto Healy.... It's showtime!! The family are surrounded and all hell is about to let loose!
A fun time is had by all, well, the reader for sure.. 😂
High energy and gross, with a hilarious conclusion.

Remy needs his own story!! 😍😂

VERY VIOLENT GHOSTS By R.J. Benetti

Oh, this was so much fun! Everything you'd expect from Benetti, gore, depravity, hilarity and j**z!! 💦😂 Told in a descriptive, smooth flowing voice like only Benetti can.

Film students at the haunted Clancy House are trying to come up with the perfect idea for a movie, when one quite literally smacks them in the face, or through the chest, with a machete!!!! And there are likely to be lots of re-runs as the gang find themselves stuck in a weird kind of purgatory. Their pasts start to haunt them, and blend together with the mystery surrounding the house and its deceased occupants. The revelations unravel terrifyingly, disturbingly, hilariously, and with buckets of blood and other bodily fluids!

With a truly eerie atmosphere, this is a surreal and haunting read.
A read that gets more disturbing as it progresses. It's deep, it's dark. And it continues to get deeper and darker and more emotional.

A bizarre, twisted, trippy nightmare, that is as addictive as it is entertaining. I was eager to fly through the pages, to devour every word, yet hesitant for it to end.
Benetti just gets better and better with every book he writes!!

The imagery in this is so vivid and descriptive! And the characters quickly become very likeable, mostly. Benetti!! How dare you cause feelings to happen! 😭😂

I loved the transition phase from human to ghost, a brilliant idea that legitimately gave me chills.
And the ending was perfect! 🖤

THE STICKS By Harrison Phillips

Out in the middle of nowhere, or out in “The Sticks”, dwells "The Boy.” Born with a s**t ton of birth defects, his mother keeps him wrapped in cling-film, quite literally. He has a morbid fascination with fire, amongst other disturbing things.

Meanwhile, out in the Welsh countryside, a group of friends are staying at the luxury Backwoods Lodge.

When “The Boy” and his in**ed family, and the group of friends converge, chaos bloody chaos ensues.
With no holds barred and no f***s given...the result is beyond savage!

This was a ton of fun, with smooth flowing prose and delightfully gruesome imagery. It immediately hit with the gore, brutality and dark humour.

And….

The "British Bulldog!" 😳

There are also 2 bonus stories, for which I will write a few words below….

TROTTERS.

A short sharp bloody romp through the Welsh countryside. A little bit of folklore about Carwyn who absolutely needs his own story! 🤞

BUNGEE CORD.

Arthur is traditional valley folk. And keeps to the old fashioned valley ways… for everything! However brutal or savage that might turn out to be.

Don't go stickin' yer w***y in places it don't belong, I think is the moral of this tale! 😉😂

A.rtificial I.niquity by Will Suffer

This is a brilliantly gruesome body horror! Mental and physical torture thats as raw as a fresh wound!
No holds barred!
Brutal!

A kind of modern day Frankenstein, Freak Show with the terrifying addition of AI.

This had me wincing from the very first sentence! And the whole first paragraph was disturbing. Which, in turn, made me very excited for the rest of the story, and I was not disappointed!

A group of people are kidnapped, and locked up, for use in one man's sick experiments and surgeries. The horrors of which intensify steadily and shockingly as the story quickly progresses. It's relentless, merciless, barbaric and horrific.

The AI aspect was chilling in its reality. The more aware it became, the more it learnt and then used to its advantage genuinely scared me.

The man's love for his mother, and his warped view of humanity was pure insanity! And also utterly terrifying!

SOMETHING TERRIBLE By Wrath James White and Sultan Z. White.

This book is a collection of 5 novellas by father and son team Wrath and Sultan. Each story is brutal, shocking, disturbing, hard hitting, and powerful, with some very detailed and graphic imagery.

Every single one was engrossing and awesome in its own right, and covers topics such as racism, abuse, alcoholism, child abuse, faith, science and genetics. There's torture, and gore galore, but also each story has a ton of depth.

I absolutely enjoyed every single tale in this book, but my faves are, the title story, ‘Something Terrible’ and ‘Amber Alert’, which is the final story.

The father/son relationships in these stories were powerful, heartwarming and heartbreaking. Showing various types of bonds and fractured relations, behaviours passed on and purposely avoided.

And, like father like son, I'm very happy to say that I'll be seeking out more from Sultan, I'm already a huge fan of Wrath's work.

I'll do as I always do now, and write a few words for each story….

SOMETHING TERRIBLE By Wrath James White.... WOW!! Shocking, and at the same time heart wrenching. A tough read, brutal, powerful.
A strong family bond, trust broken, friendship tested to its very limits, and the biggest betrayal. The brutal revenge meted out to atone for it, and the grim realisations and regret! This one's gonna linger for a very long while….

SINS OF THE FATHER By Wrath and Sultan.... Every parent wants the perfect life for their child, would do anything to make that a reality, but sometimes, it can be taken too far...

This one gets right into your head and gets the old brain matter working overtime. Terrifying!
Perfection, but at what cost? Very disturbing.

SAMSARA By Sultan.... Kenneth suffers the most horrific, torturous nightmares. Then they start to bleed into reality. With dire consequences and a discovery of his true purpose…

FALLEN APPLE By Sultan.... A sheer determination to not be anything like his father and to not put up with the abuse any longer results in a severe and justified revenge…. but the genetics prove hard to ignore.

AMBER ALERT By Wrath.... After experiencing racism first hand, Martin sets out to eradicate it once and for all, and what better way than with genetics and a few rituals?

This story escalates pretty damn quickly, the f**kedupness coming fast, hard and bloody! Terrifying and gnarly! The tension in this was palpable, I was on the edge of my seat for the entire crazy ride.

CORROSIVE RAVENS By S.C. Mendes & Nikki Noir

This book kicks off with an exciting sacrificial start that immediately grabs you, sucks you in, and holds your attention throughout.

The Mothers of Suck-U-Bus' origin story....this was really interesting to discover. I absolutely loved how everyone's stories came together. Awesome! Especially if you've read Suck-U-Bus beforehand. (You don't need to, this can be read as a standalone, but your experience would be optimised if you read them together!)

Corrosive Ravens will do whatever it takes to get the fame they desire, even if that means making a deal with the devil…

Mistrust, deceit, pacts, strained friendships and relationships abound in this tale of dark dreams and desires.

The narrative is super slick, and the co-writing, once again, flows effortlessly.

This story isn't as messed up and gory as Suck-U-Bus, it goes deeper, darker...it'll tug at your heart strings like a good guitar solo. Its gripping, seductive, and unputdownable! 🤘🖤
