OPERATION LOOKING GLASS (WONDERLAND BOOK 2) By Mike Ennenbach

I was so happy to dive back into the wonder of Wonderland. The light and dark of it, the good and bad of it, the wondrous and not so wondrous… the poetic, bizarre, dreamlike beauty of it! 💜

This book delves almost immediately into the more sinister side of Wonderland that we were given glimpses and insights into in the first book. And I was so down for that!

We are taken on another hallucinatory and mind bending trip through a fantastical world of bizarreness and underlying horrors. Strange flashes of long forgotten and hidden memories start to bring a stark realisation to Alice.

A tantalisingly twisty tale, with the perfect mix of fairytale vibes and an undercurrent of horror and fear, that feels like a lucid dream and leaves you with a Wonderland sized hole and craving more. I can't wait for Book 3!

It's "unpossible" not to love these stories, to be entranced and enthralled by the poetic prose and beautiful imagery!

COFFIN MOON By Keith Rosson

As a first time reader of anything by Keith Rosson, I immediately enjoyed his writing style. The short, sharp sentences reeled me in, making everything seem so much more vivid and real somehow.

Julia is an angry young lady, she has every right to be considering her upbringing, but it's getting out of control. And her aunt and partner can't keep making excuses for her..

Minor and Julia both have something in common, PTSD, though they each deal with it differently.
And Minor is keeping a secret, a dark one, one that could possibly tear his newly made family apart.

There's a ton of emotion in this story. It's also eerie, breath holdingly creepy, tense, exciting and enthralling. I couldn't put it down.

One of the best vampire reads since Let the Right One In! Mesmerising and hypnotic, just like being caught up in a vampire's glamour! 🖤

Alongside horrors beyond imagination, and a bunch of strangers, each with a dark secret, and a scary, surreal dilemma. The terrible realisation of what is happening and why, unravels horrifically, and captivatingly.

Retribution that cannot be escaped.

An eerie, unsettling atmosphere that is claustrophobic for much of the hellish journey makes for an exciting page turner.
It also gave me strong King and Barker vibes.
The tension and anticipation in this one will get your adrenaline pumping like a bullet train!!

I first read The Rotting by Josh, a few years ago, I really enjoyed it. Murphy has come on leaps and bounds since then, and it's a real pleasure to read more from him.
This story is brought to life by his detailed and descriptive prose; it was a smooth, captivating read that I couldn't, or wouldn't, put down!
The nightmare imagery is chilling.
Every single chapter is thrilling and tense and leaves you wanting more.

Fleshed out characters that you grow to love, or hate, some that make your blood boil and others you just want to hug.
Very visual, almost cinematic, and the deeper you delve into this story, the darker and more sinister it gets.
I was so completely immersed in this story, it felt so vividly realistic, my anxiety was through the roof! It also gave me goosebumps.

URBAN DECAY By R.J. Daly

I get so excited every time a new RJ Daly book releases and I am never disappointed. This book is absolutely no exception, it blew me away, I even had to put it down and take a deep breath at one point! This book is powerful, emotional, brutal, brilliant!!!!

His portrayal of events is always so vividly detailed, although that's not always a good thing 😉😂 And I love the humour scattered throughout too, allowing for a nice little breather amongst the gore and depravity.
Daly has such a fantastic way with words, the littlest details are vividly brought to life and proceed to assault all your senses.

A town down on its luck, along with its residents, addiction is rife, as is crime, vagrancy, and abuse, most people are at rock bottom or not far off. Broken people residing in a broken town. Circumstances lead to Jimmy doing what he needs to, to support his younger brother. The only way he knows how, not wanting him to go through the horrors he did.

Paul and Tony on the other hand, have an altogether different way of dealing with things…

Completely engrossing, rife with gore and depravity, packed with relentless and utterly remorseless gore saturated action, and a twist I was not expecting. Along with some emotional, heartfelt moments, I was completely invested in Jimmy and Toby's characters and storyline.

I loved how this story steadily escalated, Daly feeds us lots of little tidbits along the way, adding to the story, the anticipation, the mystery, the horror and depravity, as he goes, and bringing it all together brilliantly, intertwining storylines and characters, and dropping little hints of sinister goings on as tantalising teasers to keep us guessing and craving more. Genius!

If you've seen a movie called "Where Evil Lurks" there is one particularly shocking scene in that, which made my blood run cold and still haunts me to this day! This book did that to me all over again!! Literally made me shiver all over!! It shook me to my absolute core, and still does whenever I think about it! Thats probably the most horrific scene Ive ever read, and damn RJ for his brilliantly descriptive prose! I had to take a quick breather after that and I'm gonna be having nightmares all over again! It also made me cry once I felt brave enough to go back to it.
So powerful and emotional.

Once Jimmy realises he has nothing left to lose, he prepares himself for retribution, fuelled by a new found bloodlust. One by one, with ever more ingenious and torturous kills, he gets his sweet revenge.

And Paul! What a vile fu***ng creature he is! He angered and disgusted me in equal measure! I wanted him to suffer, and the revenge meted out to him was rather apt! Perfect! 🤌

Daly's words, as disgusting, vile, and depraved as they are, are full of heart and depth too. They genuinely immerse you into the characters and the story as though youre a part of it, along for the hellish, torturous rollercoaster ride.

One of the best revenge stories Ive ever read!

KEMBERTON By David Moody

Holy s**t!! What a powerful opening!
When you're left reeling and needing to pause for a bit, from just the first chapter you know you're in for a treat. Moody's narrative is so intense and immersive, I was completely in that world with Eddie and his family, and felt every emotion.. Wow! Wow, Wow, Wow!
An opening chapter like this one immediately sets a high standard for the rest of the book, but not to worry, it lives up to it, and then some. Boy does it!!

Kemberton got his name in a unique way, and for a unique reason, there will only ever be one Kemberton! And after a terrible accident with his dad, it has a devastating effect on Kemberton, and changes his whole little life. Of course, this then attracts the more unsavoury types towards Kemberton..
He recedes into himself and learns to fight back the only way he can, though his coping mechanisms just serve to make him even more of an outcast.
He hasn't chosen to be this way, he wants more than anything to be "normal”.

Another incident later on, sees Kemberton's life change once again, flips his whole world, and that of those around him.
A young boy, traumatised and abused, who now just wants to look out for his mum, do anything in his power to protect her. He's not about to keep things bottled up anymore, he's about to let loose the only way he can, and it feels empowering, if a little confusing.

This has to be the most invested I've been in a character for a long time. Kemberton is screaming out for love and affection, but of course he's unable to express that and getting ignored and abused from all angles. It's absolutely heart wrenching. It makes you feel so helpless and broken for him.

A completely shocking, horrifying and gripping storyline that went in a completely unexpected direction.
Kemberton isn't like other people, he really (and thankfully) is one of a kind...
And when that penny dropped, so did my jaw!

I don't think there was a single time in this whole heartbreaking, horrific story that my heart didn't go out to Kemberton. I feel like I know this kid, and his story is going to stick with me for quite a while.

I'm pretty sure I read the last 20% or so at the speed of light. I burnt through those pages, could not get enough! But was inevitably left with a huge book hangover.

As utterly heartbreaking as it is horrifying, this one's gonna leave mental scars!!!!
Again….WOW!! 🖤

MR SUCKY By Duncan Bradshaw

After reading Cannibal Nuns by Duncan and having an absolute blast with it, I was looking forward to reading more. And a book titled Mr Sucky that is set out just like an instruction manual has to be another good time right? Right!!!!
Abso-fu***ng-lutely! It was hilarious from the off.

A unique insight into the mind of a serial killer. The interior monologue is sarcastic, highly amusing and quick witted. We get to see the proceedings from several angles, and I have to say, I think it's genius! So much fun from start to finish. A laugh a minute, there's not one page in this book that won't make you giggle or laugh out loud!

Clive plans his kills meticulously, but has someone finally outwitted him? Or has he been given a better chance to do what he does best, with less chance of getting caught….?

The detailed narrative is rammed with quirkiness and jokes aplenty. An abundance of hilarious insults to add to my collection. 😂

A squeamish serial killer with an alter ego that is much more hardcore and determined than he is, makes for a wildly fun, bizarre and gory time!

As hilarious as it is gory, and a combination of the two more often than not, this book is pure genius and an absolute blast, packed with brilliant twists and turns.

"Hmm, who needs Botox when you can just slip a vacuum cleaner pipe into a bodily port, and switch to blow?”

THE SIREN OF GROVES PEAK By Glenn Rolfe

An eerie, tranquil atmosphere kicks off this supernatural folk horror, and holds you in its chilly embrace throughout.

There's a new girl in Groves Peak, one that turns heads and turns men into lovestruck teens again. She's a bit of a man-eater. She wants what is owed her, and she arrives as regularly as the tide.

Lizzy and Willow are best friends, they grew up in Groves Peak. Their friendship jumps out of the page at you, and is a beacon of light in a very dark place.

The town has a well kept and unique secret, outsiders say its witchcraft, and as it slowly unravels you'll be held mesmerised and mystified by it. Only one thing is asked for in return, but it's driving the town's women away, and that's just for starters. And when one fisherman goes against this, vengeance is inevitable. And fierce!

Small town secrets don't always stay secret, and sometimes they need to be brought to an end…

The lives of the residents of Groves Peak are turned sinisterly upside down. Lizzy and Willows in particular..

Enthralling, emotional, and Damn, that epilogue was moving! 🥹

Rolfe's narrative is slick and captivating. I could hear the ripples of the ocean, smell the brine in the air.... alongside hearing the screams and tasting the coppery tang of blood…

A very moreish read with great cliffhangers to keep you turning the pages.

This book isn't just a great supernatural horror, it's a book that embraces female empowerment, and it's done in a way that is almost subtle, yet at the same time, is screamed from the rooftops, almost like an attention grabbing siren song!
It shows the strength of women scorned. Determined women. Strong, powerful, women. True girl power, female empowerment, and overcoming fears with grim determination, whilst the men have realised their mistakes and hide away in fear and cowardice.

Glenn's passion for music also shines through, and makes for a fantastic playlist! 🤘

BODY PARTS By Matthew Vaughn

First of all, that opening paragraph!! Actually, that opening line! 😳 That'll either grab you by the short and curlies and have you absolutely knowing you're gonna love this book, or the opposite. For me it was 100% the former!

And then theres the opening line for chapter 2.. 🤢😂

Set in the same apartments as Vaughn's short NOTES, which I absolutely loved, the MC of this book has a story to tell. And boy does he have a story to tell!!
Buckle up, its a wildly fu**ed up kinda love story.

He has a yearning, a fe**sh, unlike any other, and has to increasingly do odd, dangerous things to appease it. Ramping up the trepidation, horror and depravity with every turn of the page.

It's sick, twisted and depraved, like a car crash that you can't look away from, but in the best possible way of course! 😉

I love how Vaughn always jumps straight into the depravity, hooks you in, holds you there, kicking, screaming and with your stomach churning and twisting, for the entire thrill ride! He always brings it, whatever the story, and whatever road it may take…and I for one, am always here for it!

So disgustingly graphic and, just like with NOTES, this one takes a brilliant mind f**k of a turn. Utterly surreal and chilling, it'll leave a lasting impression for sure.

The story starts off wild and then just spirals into insanity and fever dream like surrealism.
It's a lot of fun and darkly humorous, alongside the depravity and mindfu***ng!

DIE AND ROT IN HELL By Harrison Phillips

A group of friends want to see if the legend of The Black Altar is true. Said to be left behind by a coven of witches, it's allegedly a sacrificial altar comprised of a black tree stump. Armed with a satanic bible bought off the dark Web, they set off.

And things take a sudden, drastic and horrific turn from the get go, sn*******ng rapidly and bringing lives together, and to a rotten end.

Leonard, a man who loves pain, is having visions. Visions that get more and more hellish as they lead him to a predestined fate, one which promises to make all his sadistic dreams come true.

This was so addictive, such a fun, gory, slick narrative, with vivid, horrific imagery. It's gnarly AF, visceral, action packed and blood soaked. It doesn't let up for a second, and I loved that!

It takes a lot to make me grimace and squirm when reading, but Harrison nailed it! Really well fleshed out characters, likeable, relatable.. Harrison's best yet! 💯

DEDWADONT BY Tommy Clark

In the midst of a snow storm, two brothers are sheltering after a successful hunt. They are joined by an unexpected guest, strange bright lights, and an abundance of snow. This leads to very strange occurrences, along with Old ones, and wendigos, and chilling myths and folklore are brought to life once again.

You are embraced by a creepy, ominous and visually stunning landscape. Chilling, in more ways than one, although it does get rather steamy in places…

The suspense and the build up are tense and exciting.

I loved how the story jumped back and forth, slowly unravelling the mysteries, seamlessly and moreishly, resulting in this becoming a one sitting read I devoured with equally chilled delight, and eerie horror.

And the ending? Perfect!
