"When should I book my newborn photographer?"
It's one of the questions I'm asked almost every week... along with:
* What if my baby won't sleep?

* What actually happens during a newborn session?
* What should we wear?

Over the last five years, I've had the privilege of photographing 100s beautiful babies, and I've realised that most expectant parents have exactly the same questions before they book.
So rather than answering them one at a time, I've put everything together in one place.

When should I actually book a newborn photographer?

It's probably the question I'm asked more than any other.
The answer surprises lots of parents...
The best time to book is actually during your pregnancy, ideally after your 20-week scan.
Don't worry, we're not booking an exact date! Instead, I reserve space around your due date and once your little one arrives, we'll choose the perfect session date together.
If your baby has already arrived, it's still worth getting in touch as I occasionally have last-minute availability.

NEWBORN MODEL CALL

I'm looking for two newborn babies to take part in upcoming model sessions that will help me create behind the scenes content showcasing my newborn photography experience.

I'm looking for:
• One newborn who has recently arrived (ideally under 2 weeks old).
• One baby who is due in the next few weeks, so we can plan their session once they've arrived.

During these sessions I'll be capturing behind the scenes footage to demonstrate:
• How I pose newborns.
• The setups and styling I use.
• What happens during a newborn session.
• The editing process.
• The finished images that are created.

These are model sessions and will be shorter than my full newborn experience, with a limited number of setups chosen by me to suit the content I'm creating.
In exchange for taking part, you'll receive 3 professionally edited images from your session along with copies of any i use online. As the images and behind the scenes footage will be used for my website, social media and other marketing, a signed model release form will be required before the session.

If you'd like to be considered, please send me a message with:
• Your baby's age (if already born) or your due date.
• Whether your baby is a boy or girl (if known).

I'll then choose two families whose timing and availability are the best fit.

"What if my baby won't settle during their newborn photoshoot?"
It's one of the questions I hear most from new parents, and the answer is... that's completely okay.

Newborn sessions are never about expecting your baby to be "perfect." They are gentle, baby-led, and designed with plenty of time for feeds, cuddles, nappy changes, and all the little pauses your baby needs. Some of my favourite images happen in those quiet moments between poses.

If you're feeling nervous about booking a newborn session, I've shared some of my best tips for keeping your little one calm and settled, along with a few reassuring truths that every new parent should know.

Which photo is more "your baby"?

Some newborns sleep through almost their entire session... while others are determined not to miss a thing!
The best part? Both create beautiful, meaningful photographs.

Parents... did your little one sleep through their newborn session, or were they wide awake no matter what?

Parents-to-be... if you could choose, would you hope for a sleepy baby or an awake baby for your photos?

For Father's Day this year, I managed to convince our three to step in front of my camera for a few minutes.

As a photographer, I spend so much of my time capturing other families, freezing moments that they'll treasure forever. Yet somehow, the three people I photograph the least are our own when they are all together (mainly because they flat out refuse to do it).

Looking through these, I couldn't help but wonder where the years have gone. It feels like yesterday they were small enough to hold my hand, and now they're taller than me, finding their own paths and becoming incredible young adults. I used to laugh when people said 'enjoy it whilst they are small' or 'time flies' because at the time it didn't seem that way... now I look back and realise how right they were.

Photography has taught me that time has a habit of slipping through our fingers. One minute you're taking first-day-of-school photos, and the next you're standing behind the camera wondering how they grew up so fast.

These photos aren't perfect because of the lighting or the backdrop. They're special because they capture this chapter of our lives, it captures our children exactly as they are right now.

A little reminder to all parents: don't wait for the perfect moment. Step into the photos, take the pictures, and make the memories.
