🚁📍A view many locals will recognise — the old Two Trees High School site from above, now reclaimed by nature and sitting quietly in the heart of Haughton Green 🌿
Once a busy secondary school, Two Trees was part of the community for decades, later becoming Denton Sports College before merging into what is now Denton Community College. The original buildings stood here until the school closed in 2012, after which the site was left vacant and eventually demolished due to safety concerns, including asbestos and ongoing vandalism issues.
Since then, the land has been at the centre of ongoing debate locally. Many residents will remember petitions and campaigns to keep the fields as green space, with strong community feeling about protecting one of the village’s last large open areas.
So what’s happening with it now?
The truth is — it’s still a bit up in the air.
* There have been longstanding plans to build housing on the site, with the council previously preparing outline planning proposals for residential development.
* At the same time, local councillors and residents have pushed back, saying they’d prefer it to remain for education or community green space where possible.
* As of the latest updates available, no confirmed final development has fully gone ahead, and the future use remains undecided — though housing is still considered a likely option.
For now, it stands as a bit of local history frozen in time — from classrooms and school bells to open fields and footpaths.
Crazy how somewhere once full of life ends up like this… what do you think it should become?
