Can anyone guess the name of the bird in this AMAZING photo. Some got it right, it’s a very well hidden long eared owl.

This is a short video of the hummingbird hawk moth taken by my partner Andrea. They are tricky wee things to photo lol.

Today I watched an Osprey repeatedly fly into the water. It wasn’t diving after fish but just landed in like a duck. It did this 3-4 times and then flew into a tree to dry off and preen. Speaking to people and reading apparently Ospreys can bathe to keep their plumage in good condition, especially after fishing in salt water to clean the salt out of the feathers. Learn something every day.

Today I was lucky to see a Hummingbird Hawk Moth. This is an utterly amazing large moth in that it flys between flowers feeding with an its long proboscis (long coiled feeding tube). It beets its wings around 80 times a second or 5000 beats a minute and its aptly named after the hummingbird!

Lovely to see an Osprey today. At this time of the years Osprey can visit NI before they return to Africa. Distant photos. This was Wildlife-With-Ethan first Osprey and he was the first to spot it, a very good find.

For the last 5 months birding in Northern Ireland has been hard work with little to nothing about and to be honest it’s become quite stressful. So here’s a few photos from the past few years. Names on the photo and all birds seen in the UK and Ireland

Today wasn’t all about watching birds, while waiting for birds we were entertained by Bottle Nose Dolphins and porpoises.

Distant records shots of pale phase and dark phase Arctic Skuas. Both exactly the same species, just different colours. I loved watching these skuas today chasing the sandwich terns in what is like a dogfight. The idea is the skua chase the tern that has a fish in its bill until the tern drops the fish to stop the chase.
