I wanted to create something that was about so much more than just having beautiful photographs.

As a photographer, and someone who has worked within the creative industry for many years, I know how powerful the right image can be. But I also know that creating those images is about understanding the person in front of the camera — helping them feel confident, seen, and able to express who they really are.

That’s why I created the Dance & Performing Arts Portfolio Experience.

I wanted to bring together a small group of exceptional creatives, each bringing something different — from movement and theatrical direction, to costume, hair and makeup, and of course my own creative direction and photography.

My role is to bring all of those elements together and create something truly individual for one performer.
I’m not looking to simply photograph what they can already do.

I want to discover what makes them them — their personality, their artistry, their movement and their potential — and create a portfolio that allows all of that to come through.

I can't wait to see what we create together.

The selected performer will be notified by the 30th September and the creating of the portfolio will be during the December holidays. Giving plenty of time to develop concepts and plan well.

I'm delighted to introduce Suzette Neptune, MA, as Movement and Theatrical Specialist on this project.

With five decades across dance, movement, theatre and the creative arts, Suzette brings her professional knowledge to the Dance & Performing Arts Portfolio Experience.

Suzette began training in New York City at three years old, with teachers from the Joffrey Ballet, Bolshoi Ballet, New York City Ballet and American Ballet Theatre. She is an alumna of the Martha Graham School, LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, and the National Dance Institute, NYC.

She studied drama and theatrical arts under iconic NYC acting coach Jim Moody (Juilliard), and later received her MA in European Dance Theatre at Trinity Laban (London), studying with the renowned Dr Valerie Preston-Dunlop.

Throughout her career, Suzette has worked across Europe, Britain and in the United States, creating and touring choreography, theatre, film, multimedia and live arts production. Her work spans performance, direction, costume and set design, technical, stage and production management, with a focus on specialised movement coaching and arts education.

This breadth of experience informs Suzette’s artistic voice, and her approach as a director, producer and educator. Drawing on a lifetime across dance, theatre, music, martial arts, voice, film, art and cultural studies, she has developed a unique and detailed
understanding of movement, performance and storytelling.

As Movement and Theatrical Specialist, Suzette will work closely with the selected artist, offering professional movement direction and coaching. She will help them to build confidence and explore transferable skills, encouraging creative growth and authentic artistry.

Working collaboratively under my creative and project direction, Suzette is offering her skills in support of one exceptional performer. Together, we will create a photographic portfolio that reveals not only technical ability, but individuality, character, expression and personal style.

I am glad to have Suzette as part of this project, and look forward to the transformation this experience will bring to the artist selected.

Meet one of the collaborators behind The Dance & Performing Arts Portfolio Experience Award.

✨️I'm delighted to introduce Kim Freeman, whose expertise in hair, wigs, make-up and prosthetics for stage and screen brings an exceptional level of industry knowledge to this project.

✨️A BA (Hons) graduate in Hair, Make-up and Prosthetics for Stage and Screen from the University of Northampton, she has built an impressive portfolio across theatre, film, television, fashion and live performance.

✨️Her specialist skills span theatrical hair and make-up, wig dressing and styling, period and character make-up, prosthetic special effects, and the creation of facial postiche for professional productions.

✨️Her recent work includes collaborations with the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, where she is currently employed as a Casual Wig Technician, preparing and dressing wigs for productions including La Traviata, supporting the ladies' chorus and carrying out backstage maintenance during performances.

✨️Alongside this role, she works as a salon manager and a freelance hair and make-up artist, collaborating with theatre, film and television productions.

✨️Her recent credits include work with Shakespeare's Globe, Channel 4, Samphire Films, Network Rail, Goodwood Revival, and numerous musical theatre productions including Kinky Boots, Calamity Jane, Made in Dagenham and Alice in Wonderland.

✨️Her creativity, technical precision and understanding of the performing arts make her an invaluable collaborator for The Dance & Performing Arts Portfolio Experience Award.

✨️Together, we're creating an experience that offers far more than a photoshoot—bringing together industry professionals dedicated to helping one emerging performer showcase their talent at the highest possible standard.

It's time.
For the past few months, I've been creating something rooted in a belief I've carried with me for many years.

Today, I'm proud to introduce The Dance & Performing Arts Portfolio Experience.

Created for performers aged 16 and over, this experience has been designed to celebrate artistry, invest in potential and create a portfolio that reflects not only who you are today, but who you're becoming.

At the conclusion of the experience, one performer will be recognised as the year's Featured Artist and receive The Speranza Award.

There was a time in my life when I wanted an opportunity that felt completely out of reach.

I couldn't afford to take part, but I could choose how I showed up.

While many around me simply went through the motions, I decided to give everything I had. I stood a little taller, worked a little harder and hoped that, somehow, someone might notice.

Someone did.

That one decision, together with one person's belief in my potential, changed the course of my future in ways I could never have imagined.

I've never forgotten it.

For a long time, I've wanted to create an opportunity that reflects that same belief—that talent, commitment and determination deserve to be recognised.

Very soon, I will be sharing what that moment inspired me to create.

Some ideas don't arrive all at once.

They reveal themselves slowly, layer by layer.

Not because they're complicated, but because they're rooted in something that truly deserves time to be explored... until their true purpose reveals itself.

For quite some time, I've been shaping one of those ideas.

I believe it has become something far greater than I first imagined.

I look forward to sharing it with you over the coming days.
