What do you remember from your childhood?

Do you think your children will remember if Dad would rather have been anywhere else on that day, or whether he felt awkward in front of the camera?
Doubtful.

But they will have the proof that Dad showed up and that he was present. They’ll look back on photos and see the man who once carried them on his shoulders, and those photos will remind them they are loved.

Do you swaddle wrap your newborn? Does it work for you? Tell me in the comments.

As a newborn photographer, I use swaddling as a starting point in my Aylesbury studio.
Over the years, I've mastered the swaddling technique to help newborn babies gain that instant comfort through the art of swaddling.

Swaddle wraps in a newborn photosession help the baby to feel snug, warm and supported.
Their body is familiar with this position from being in the womb, so it is very comfortable for them.

Swaddling during a newborn photosession serves multiple purposes as it also creates texture through its layering. It also helps transition between props with very little disruption to baby.

My newborn photosessions start with a base layer wrap - for that initial comfort swaddle, and then another swaddle wrap on top as the 'pretty' layer for the artistry.

Babies love it!

Baby safety in newborn photography and why it matters.

If you are booking a photographer based on price alone, are you sure they use safe practice? (Don't come for me - I am not saying low price photographers are not safe, but worth checking because experienced photographers tend to charge more because they invest regularly in safety training)

For this image, there is lots going on behind the scenes.

To ensure safe practice, know this:

- there is a 5kg weight in the bottom of that bucket: it is going nowhere!
- baby stays half wrapped so he doesn't kick his legs out
- he is in an upright position - protects his airways
- there is a small posing bean under his elbow on the far side for more comfort and best positioning for his head and airways
- extra padding under the top layer so no hard edge under his arms/chin
- icing on the cake - I stay super close to him and keep my hand within inches of him throughout

I invest in baby safety so that new parents can trust me when they choose me for newborn photography.

Parents frequently ask if I can come home with them because their baby is so settled in my arms. 🥰

At my Aylesbury studio, I have held and photographed hundreds of babies. I have specialist newborn training for safe posing, and am often called a baby whisperer by so many of the families who have chosen me for their newborn photoshoot.

I don't just love babies, I care deeply about supporting Mums at this life changing chapter and I'll look after Mums too. That can mean being a listening ear, giving you a break, or even being someone you can come back to with questions or meeting for a cuppa.

Let me say this.
Portraits of baby WITH you, are incredibly special.

Because they grow fast.
They will want to look back on how small they were.
How lovingly you held them.
The comparison of their hand size to yours.

You don't have to get your faces in the portrait if you really don't want to. I won't insist.
But just give me your hands.

Celebrating mothers is something at the heart of my business.

Mother's Day is being celebrated around the world by many countries today, and even though not UK (where I am based), this beautiful family is a reminder that motherhood isn’t defined by one story, one path, or one kind of family.

Being a Mother is state of being, of significant identify. It’s love, comfort, connection, chaos, tenderness, and of course, all the little moments in between. I will always be grateful to capture such a special role.

To all Mums out there - you are magnificent. It is a pleasure to parent alongside such strength and energy - because we all know it takes a lot of those to nurture these beautiful little humans!
