The Clock House (Coes Faen) Barmouth

The Clock House is a Grade II listed Victorian Gothic house, dramatically positioned on a small projection into the Mawddach Estuary, just east of Barmouth Bridge. It was officially listed in 1995 because of its unusual architecture and prominent setting beside the bridge.

Barmouth Town Council records the story that the earlier building on the site was used as a courthouse, with cells underneath. Prisoners were supposedly brought in by boat and taken into cells at water level beneath the building. The courtroom was said to have been upstairs.
