Went to the Isle of Ulva with one main goal: photograph the eagles. I tried doing it the hard/cheap way on foot, though deep down I knew a dedicated boat tour gives you the absolute best chance at those insane close-ups.
I took the Livingstone Walk trail from the boathouse all the way to the far end. I finally spotted an eagle in the distance, but even zoomed to roughly 900mm equivalent (Sigma 150-600mm paired with the Sony a6700), it was still way too far for a solid frame.
After walking the island all day, I headed back to the boathouse, sat on the shore, and waited for the ferry. Then, out of nowhere, a boat came in from open water with an eagle trailing right behind it. I couldn’t believe my eyes. An entire day of tracking, and the shot comes at the exact last second before leaving!
Thrilled I walked away with something, but I’m definitely coming back to do it right on a boat tour next time. 🦅✨
What’s the luckiest shot you’ve ever pulled off?
