Rediscovered buried treasure is SUCH a thrill! Motorhead's long-time tour manager Graham Mitchell and his partner Liz asked me to bake and restore a studio tape given to him by guitarist "Fast" Eddie Clarke, that's being sitting around, unplayed, for nearly fifty years.

It turns out to be a wonderful, ramshackle rehearsal from 1977, in preparation for their second album. It was recorded at Escape Studios in Kent, best known for Jeff Beck recording there. It's as rare as hen's teeth and FANTASTIC (and needs a release! 😉).

We'll never stop getting a real thrill seeing our tape restoration projects seeing official release. Renowned journalist and Needle Mythology label boss Pete Paphides was kind enough to give me copies of these two wonderful releases, by underrated stars from the Birmingham Reggae scene. They're CRACKING albums.

Here's a tiny (doctored) clip from one of our delightful finds - proof that the lads from Musical Youth were persuaded to change the lyrics to the song that would propel them to number one in the charts! (A "kouchie" is something you might, er, smoke... 😉)

Some of our projects are really challenging. This one certainly was too, but immensely satisfying!

This was a complete ground-up remixing/mastering/cover and booklet design commission for singer/songwriter/guitarist Mike Young and his band of many decades, "Mike, Roger & Terry" for their album "Melodies, Rhythms and Tales II" recorded in the 1990s.

The production involved:

🔊 AI voice and instrument isolation from the original 1990s rough mixes recorded at home
🔊 Manual multitrack remixing in Logic Pro
🔊 Mastering in Logic and Adobe Audition
🖌 Sleeve and booklet design in Adobe Photoshop
💿 CD mastering for release

A hugely enjoyable project, and well worth the hard work! You can hear the results on most streaming platforms, including Spotify. Thanks again, Mike - great tunes! 🙏

Sorry to have been absent these past weeks... We've been busy! A few daily updates incoming on what we've been up to...

Our tape baking and restoration adventures continue apace... We've recently baked and restored tapes by ELO, Bee Gees, Bruce Springsteen and several others who we've promised not to mention for fear of implicating some passionate collectors!

So many thanks to Lou, the son of ELO's incredible, late string arranger and conductor Louis Clark, whose tapes are incredibly special and rare! Thank you, sir. 🙏

Talented young journalist Magda Markiewicz recently interviewed Rob SnappyAds and I for her "Media Spotlight" series of films about our backgrounds, businesses, passions and niche specialisms. It was tremendous fun to contribute to her project - she's a great interviewer and picked up film-making like she was born to it!
