It never was.

The Noctilux 50mm f/1 is about atmosphere. About how a subject separates from the world around it. Not cut out, but slowly revealed.

This lens shaped the way I see and photograph. Not because it’s perfect, but because it isn’t.

After years of working with different Noctilux versions, the f/1 remains the most expressive for my work. Not the most perfect, but the one with the most character.

The Noctilux was never about perfection.

It is about atmosphere.
About glow.
About a way of rendering light that feels alive.

Over the years I have worked with most Noctilux lenses, each with its own character and personality.

On May 2nd I will share this journey during a workshop at Leica Store Manchester.
