Eclipse watching in Hammersmith. With a “mere” 91% coverage of the sun by the moon, the actual naked eye visual experience in West London was not the awe-inspiring, other-worldly astronomical event as seen in Spain. But as a quasi-scientific pretext to gather a large cross section of the population to feel some common bond, it was great fun and hugely uplifting. I dashed around dividing my time between people watching and trying on my certified eclipse glasses.

The first wedding of the season, end of May, took me back to one of my favourite venues, Chateau de Bourneau for an intimate Irish celebration. Averil and Daire symbolically tied the knot in a charming ceremony, took a walk down to the local church and then partied and played games with their nearest and dearest in the majestic castle grounds.

What a wonderful tradition the Fête de la Musique is, a celebration of music, culture, dance and diversity, freeing body and mind on Summer solstice day. Going now for over 40 years this French open air festival is the perfect antidote to the current hatred and gloom enveloping world affairs.
The heatwave almost prevented me going, but while I went more to catch up with a friend than to see the acts, still enjoyed capturing some joyous moments.
