Sailing softly along the Wareham River,
as daylight melts into gold,
the sun slips low behind the boats,
turning masts to silhouettes
and the water to fire.

For a little while, the world grows still —
just ripples, reflections and evening light,
carrying us gently towards the sunset.

Happened upon a secret pool hidden in deepest Dorset, where little waterfalls tumbled over ancient rocks and the water caught the light like scattered jewels. It felt like finding a place the world had forgotten for a while — peaceful, untouched and quietly magical. I stood there listening to the water and the rustle of the trees and felt truly blessed to have found it. 📸 ♥️

A puddle to some is just rain on the ground,
But photographers see what’s waiting to be found.
A sky turned upside down, a moment caught just right,
A little pool of ordinary… transformed by perfect light.

I’ve found myself more and more drawn to old bridges and their history, the other week I came across Holmebridge which has stood at this crossing in one form or another since medieval times, quietly carrying centuries of history across the River Frome. In 1644, during the English Civil War, the area became the scene of a small but fierce clash between Parliamentarian and Royalist forces. The bridge we see today dates from 1963, replacing the earlier Bailey bridge — but the crossing itself has been part of this landscape for hundreds of years.

A beautiful little piece of Dorset history. 🤍

Today, on World Photography Day, I wanted to share an image that means far more to me than technical perfection ever could.

This was the moment a huge whale breached right beside our boat. We were completely taken by surprise, so it isn’t the sharpest or most perfect photograph by a country mile — but every time I look at it, I’m taken straight back to the sheer awe of being there.

These magnificent creatures were making their epic journey north towards warmer waters, calling to one another as they travelled. Hearing their haunting, beautiful melody carried through the water, knowing they were communicating across the ocean, was something I will never forget.

To witness such power, grace and wildness at such close quarters felt almost otherworldly. I remember feeling completely humbled, deeply moved and truly blessed to have been in that exact place at that exact moment.

Some photographs are about perfection. Others are about memory, emotion and the privilege of witnessing something extraordinary.

This one will always be the latter — a magical moment, and without doubt a memory I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life.

With huge thanks to Monica May for treating me to the day and to Out Of The Blue Adventures for such a fantastic excursion

Couldn’t help but ‘steal’ and edit this quote, as anyone who knows me will know just how much this sums me up 😜😜 I guess I should issue some apologies for those that have been foolish enough to follow me on my ‘quests’ - though in fairness I do issue a warning ⚠️

Shout out to Woodlarking for the original post and Nick for sharing it👌

After months of searching I’ve finally found my ‘lost’ SD card that has some of the most amazing photos from my 2025 Australian trip - to say I’m relieved is an understatement!!
Here’s one from the truly gorgeous Whitehaven Beach - if there really is an heaven it must surely look like this 😜😜

The full moon never fears its fading.
It knows that darkness is not the end—only the quiet beginning of becoming whole again.

So when life asks you to let go, remember the moon.
Every ending carries the promise of a new beginning.
