Bergen series 6/6

This post feels a bit emotional, since this is the last one from Norway and Scandinavia... for a while. Now, it's time to head for other regions, which doesn't mean I won't be back. It's just a matter of time (and finances 😅).

But until then... takk for alt, Bergen! 🇳🇴😍

You haven't really visited Norway, if you haven't been out in nature

Bergen is the perfect city for a first visit in Norway, as this place offers a balance between architecture and nature. Luckily, the latter is just a few steps – or a funicular ride – away.

Once you jump on Fløibanen, make sure to meet the super friendly goats, and then go for a walk in the surrounding forests: there are several routes with varying difficulty levels, so make sure to plan accordingly. I somehow managed to take a different route than originally planned, which I wouldn't do again, even though it led to some of the most spectacular views I have recently seen. 💚🇳🇴

The sun is shining (for the most part), and Bergen is showing a different face ☀️🇳🇴

Just in time, as the next step in my itinerary is visiting the streets of Nordnes, Nøstes and Verftet (where most of these photos were taken) – these are some of the main districts to see all these wooden buildings, originally built for merchants and fishermen.

When it comes to these streets, don't plan too much, just go where your intuition leads you – you will find the most beautiful spots either way! ✨

Velkommen til Bergen 👋🇳🇴

For now, this is the last part of our Scandinavian tour. After two successful trips to Denmark and a memorable visit in the Swedish capital, it was not a question that I couldn't miss out on Norway, either. When it comes to the country of fjords and breathtaking nature, I always knew Bergen would be the first place for me to visit in this country!

This city has it all - the harbours, the lovely houses, the sea, and of course the nature. Bergen also has a reputation of being the European city with the highest amount of rain. Luckily, if you know when to pay a visit, you can minimize your chances of the constant rainfalls ruining your itinerary - April and May are said to be the best months to visit, and based on my personal experience, late April was certainly a great time to visit. Though these photos might not reflect what I claim, stay tuned, because the weather just keeps getting better! 🇳🇴☀️

The duality of Aarhus

For the final post about Aarhus, I decided to merge two different worlds that both define the city: old and the new.

One of the most interesting museums I have seen in recent years was definitely Den Gamle By (the Old Town).

It is an open-air museum, where you find historic buildings relocated from different parts of Denmark, showcasing life from past centuries. Here you find everything a city needs: a bakery, a school, a butchery, a hairdresser's, or even a greenhouse.

Since different eras are presented, don't be surprised to find even more recent and still existing chains, like a 7-eleven, and yes, you can buy real products in some of these shops!

But what makes it more authentic are the people, dressed up in period costumes, walking around and recreating real-life activities, making it feel like you genuinely stepped back in time into an actual Gamle By.

I spent a weekend in the second largest city of Hungary, Debrecen. In the shadow of Budapest, it is an often overlooked place, but it certainly has its own kind of charm. 😍✨🇭🇺

When I booked the trip to Aarhus last year, my initial enthusiasm soon turned into hesitation: what if Aarhus would be underwhelming and wouldn't live up to the experience in Copenhagen.

Looking back now, I couldn't have been more wrong. Aarhus is the type of city I like the most: medium-sized, compact, and yet, it is full of surprises. 😍🇩🇰

The rainbow panorama is part of ARoS, the city's modern art museum.
