The duality of Aarhus
For the final post about Aarhus, I decided to merge two different worlds that both define the city: old and the new.
One of the most interesting museums I have seen in recent years was definitely Den Gamle By (the Old Town).
It is an open-air museum, where you find historic buildings relocated from different parts of Denmark, showcasing life from past centuries. Here you find everything a city needs: a bakery, a school, a butchery, a hairdresser's, or even a greenhouse.
Since different eras are presented, don't be surprised to find even more recent and still existing chains, like a 7-eleven, and yes, you can buy real products in some of these shops!
But what makes it more authentic are the people, dressed up in period costumes, walking around and recreating real-life activities, making it feel like you genuinely stepped back in time into an actual Gamle By.
