Honored to be supporting our communities across Germany this week through a partnership with two amazing organizations.

As a spouse of a retired Marine, military veteran and spouse employment is an issue that is deeply personal to me.

I know exactly what it felt like to have moved continents and wondered if I was ever going to have a career of my own.

Fellow military spouses and military families, there are two events happening in Stuttgart this week.

I'm beyond honored to be partnering again with Hiring Our Heroes, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to support veterans and military spouses as they transition into the civilian workforce.

This marks the third year that I'll be following the HOH team on their road trip across Germany, providing both candid event photography and a professional business portrait station, made completely free to attendees by HOH, for our military communities in Stuttgart, Ramstein, and Vilseck.

I love “off-script” images.

As parents, the photographs we send to Grandma and Grandpa are typically the traditional, expected ones.

Straight posture. Everything in place. A smile or a neutral expression. The standard school portrait.

But the ones that make our hearts skip a little happy beat?

Sometimes, they're the off-script ones.

Why?

Because we've seen those expressions on our children's faces a thousand times. The silly grin. The mischievous look. The little personality that comes out when they forget there's a camera in front of them.

And yet, we rarely get to see those moments captured in a professional school portrait setting.

Looking at these two images side by side: I love both as a photographer.

As a mom? I would have a hard time deciding which image I would actually send to Grandma and Grandpa 😅

MONDAY, October 26, 2026, at 11:59 PM is your ordering deadline to qualify for free shipping of prints and products.

At the moment, our gallery login rates are:

RBES: 68%

SHS: 66%

PES: 62%

All pretty impressive numbers for high-volume school photography!

I'm sharing this today because if you're missing your children's QR code cards, we'd love to help you access your galleries before our team heads off for the weekend.

A quick note about our office hours and company culture:

As a photographer, I do work on weekends (and also weekday evenings and sometimes holidays). That's typically when I'm photographing events or private sessions.

Which is precisely why I'm protective of the free time I do have on evenings, weekends and holidays when I am not holding a camera, and why I am equally protective of my team's time.

Our company culture is simple: evenings, weekends, and holidays are for in person connections. Family, friends, and the people who are waiting to spend time with us when we're home.

That said, I'm based in Germany. Kristin is in Virginia. Tamatha is in Washington State.

This means that when you reach out Monday through Friday, we typically have excellent coverage across multiple time zones.

That's the beauty of having military spouse team members. We're everywhere. ❤️

Messages received over the weekend will receive a response on Monday, still within the free shipping ordering window.

And that's exactly why we no longer end our shipping windows on weekends.

Lesson learned from last year! 😅

One of my boundaries when it comes to the weather? Not dying in a thunderstorm. 😅

Living in Germany, the weather is unpredictable. This particular day, Stuttgart was extra rumbly, but knowing how busy fall was going to be for Emily, Nate, and their children, we decided to go for it.

With one caveat: We stop if we see lightning.

I adore this whole family, and I love the memories we made together while updating their family portraits and capturing this moment in time for Madelynn, who is a senior this year.

And YES to the whole gang showing up and checking everything off the photography to-do list in one go!

And as luck would have it: it did not rain and we did not see any lightning.

My face...every time a photographer friend sends me a high-volume photography referral.

It's a shared moment of humor because I understand exactly where they are coming from.

My friends are incredibly talented photographers who love what they do. But high-volume photography? That's an entirely different beast, and not necessarily one they want to take on at this chapter in their lives.

Military balls, schools, teams, etc. The photography itself can be a lot of fun if you enjoy working with people in fast-paced environments. And we do.

The logistics, planning, equipment, organization, customer service, and everything that happens after the photos are taken?

THAT'S where most of the work is.

So when my photographer friends happily send those referrals my way, I completely understand.

And I'm 100% okay with that. ❤️

This has been our best season of school photography yet, and there's something I'd like to share that many people may not know.

As an HBB-authorized business, I'm required to follow a specific non-solicitation clause. This means I cannot directly approach PTAs, PTSAs, military ball committees, schools, or other organizations to solicit photography contracts.

Because these contracts are typically renewed annually, our name needs to be part of those conversations every year, without me being able to reach out to the decision-makers.

This means that every amazing opportunity I've had over the last decade has come through personal recommendations from members of our community. Every single one of them.

Including from my photographer friends. ❤️

For all of this, I'm incredibly thankful. And excited for what's ahead.

When the skies literally open up to give my senior magical raindrops AND a sunny glow? I mean, come on! 😅

It was raining buckets just minutes before Patrick's senior portrait session, but we decided together that we were going to give it a try.

And if we got rained out? Well, we'd just head to a nearby café and turn Patrick's virtual internship interview into an in-person one instead.

As luck would have it, the rain stopped completely, and we ended up conducting his interview while we photographed!

And one of my absolute favorite images from the session? Definitely this one.

Just as we were wrapping up, the rain returned, giving us a brief moment of gorgeous sunlight before the clouds rolled in, with just enough raindrops to capture this magical moment. ❤️

Seriously, Patrick's mom was not kidding when she said this kid is lucky with the weather.

Meet Patrick, an aspiring action sports photographer, one of the senior editors for the SHS yearbook, and now one of my two Fall Semester interns from Stuttgart High School!

Patrick was recommended for the internship program by SHS teachers familiar with his photography and yearbook work.

Patrick will be assisting me on various assignments over the next three months, refining his photography and editing skills while also learning about the business side of photography.

I'm posting three times in the same day.

That's practically social media jail territory. 😂

But I have to pop in to say this.

SHS's free shipping window officially closed last night at 11:59 PM.

This gives us time to process orders over the weekend before sending the batch to the lab to begin printing on Monday.

I don't know how many people know this, but we now manually review every single order that comes through for quality control. This is why digital products aren't automatically released.

Because I'm me... and I'm kind of particular that way. 😂

So what does that mean?

Well, I'm off to photograph the Navy Ball today. So are members of my Stuttgart team who help me process orders.

Which means nobody is reviewing orders tonight.

And if an order just happens to come in before 10:00 AM tomorrow morning (Sunday)... well, it would still make it into the free shipping batch. 😉

And if you're like me... and you sometimes miss or skip school emails, this is your sign to run over and place your print orders.

This doesn't always happen (so please don't count on it always happening!), but sometimes the stars align so that I can make life just a little easier for busy parents.
