BLACKBOARD Project | Ethiopia “26”
#3 School in Chiko – 75 km south of Hawassa, March 30. 2026
I look back on my BLACKBOARD project in Ethiopia and reflect upon it. My third stop took me to Chiko, located approximately 75 km south of Hawassa.
There is a school here—situated just outside the village—that serves a large number of students. So many students, in fact, that the school operates in two shifts: from early morning until noon, and from noon until early evening. Quite simply, there are too many students and too few schools in this region.
I firmly believe that children who do not begin their classes until noon are no longer fully capable of learning effectively.
We formed teams of 3–4 students and, working together, repainted all the blackboards (10+) in the school with fresh black paint.
