If you grew up as an Asian kid you already know these places. Sun Wah Supermarket with the haul of instant noodles, the bbq spot with the ducks hanging in the window, Chinatown on a slow afternoon. And if you grew up as an Asian kid in Winnipeg, you’ve probably been to every single one of these spots more times than you can count.

When I was younger I didn’t always wear my background with pride. It took growing up to realize how much beauty there is in where I come from. Now I hold it close.

Monica and Jason came all the way from out of town and chose to do their engagement session right here in Winnipeg, and shooting this with them felt less like work and more like coming home. So much laughter, so much joy, so much of my own childhood reflected back at me. This one meant a lot.

Two angles. One moment.

This is exactly why a second shooter changes everything. While I was capturing her walking toward you down the aisle, my second was already behind her getting the reveal as she stepped into the ceremony. Same seconds, completely different stories. You only get one walk down the aisle and a second shooter means you get to relive it from every side. If you’re planning your wedding and wondering whether two photographers is worth it, this is your sign. The ceremony moves fast and having two perspectives means nothing gets missed.

Took a trip out to Clear Lake to shoot a wedding this past weekend, but this right here is the part I’ll remember. Time with Paige, no agenda, no clock, just being present.

I chose this path so I’d never have to pick between the work I love and the people I love. The freedom to build a career I’m proud of and still be there for these moments is everything.

This is the life. Nothing money buys comes close.
