I’ve always enjoyed looking back at my past and my mistakes to help shape a new version of myself, but also to see how far I’ve come.

But looking back can be tough. Hindsight is 20/20, and sometimes all I see are the mistakes and failures. I forget that the person making those decisions didn’t know everything I know now.

I’m learning to give that version of myself a little more grace. To take responsibility, learn what I can, and let myself move forward without constantly revisiting what I wish I’d done differently.

There are things I would change if I could. But there’s still so much ahead of me, and I want to be present for it. And in order to do that, you have to let go of the past to make room for what’s to come.

P.S. speaking of looking back… I miss Iceland (a year ago this time)

A few postcards from a weekend I wish lasted longer.

Spent the weekend at Falcon Trails Resort tucked away in the beautiful wilderness of Manitoba, and it was honestly a little magical.

Slow mornings, peaceful cabin moments, sunsets that didn’t feel real, and even a sky full of northern lights.

Sometimes it’s nice to get away from everything, slow down, and just create for the sake of creating. No expectations, no deadlines. Just a camera and a few moments worth remembering.

Here are a few little video postcards from our time out there.

One of the hardest mindset shifts I had to make as a videographer was learning how to raise my prices.

For the longest time, I thought charging more meant clients would leave.

That somehow every client would disappear the second I increased my rates.

But eventually I realized something that completely changed how I looked at pricing:

People aren’t only paying for the video.

They’re paying for the experience of working with you.

Your communication.

Your organization.

How reliable you are.

How prepared your team is on set.

How confident the client feels throughout the entire production.

The final film is obviously important—but the service surrounding it is where a lot of the real value lives.

Once I understood that, raising my prices stopped feeling like asking for more money and started feeling like accurately valuing the business I had built.

If you’re trying to grow a videography business, filmmaking business, or any creative business, this is one mindset shift that might completely change how you approach pricing.

I’m curious—what’s been harder for you?

Getting clients… or having the confidence to charge what you’re worth?

Roses are red, violets are blue, or maybe they’re white, just depends on you point of view.

A few frames I captured from Image Wonderland Winnipeg.

It’s always refreshing getting a room full of photographers, filmmakers and creatives together: shooting, experimenting, talking shop and learning from each other.

This Canon Creator Lab experience was produced by Socality in partnership with Don's Photo+The Print Refinery at SWISH STUDIOS, with eric shiozaki sharing his experience making the jump from photography into filmmaking.

I spend so much of my time behind a camera for client work, so it was nice to take a moment to shoot some photos for myself, experiment with the new Canon C50, and connect with other people in Winnipeg’s creative community.

All of these frames were shot on the Canon C50.

Great seeing so many familiar faces and meeting some new ones. If you were there, let me know which frame is your favourite.

Learning to let go.

Historically, I’ve been someone who’s always planned ten steps ahead. I’ve always liked having a vision for how things should unfold and doing everything I could to make that vision a reality.

Over the past few weeks, though, I’ve found myself in situations where I couldn’t control the outcome. I had to trust people, trust timing, and let things take on a life of their own.

For someone who finds comfort in certainty, that’s been uncomfortable.

But in letting go, I’ve also been learning more about myself. The insecurities, assumptions, and old patterns I didn’t realize were still shaping the way I moved through the world. Not because anything was wrong, but because growth has a way of revealing the parts of us we haven’t fully met yet.

I’m learning to sit with that instead of rushing past it. To trust the process without needing to know exactly where it’s leading.

It’s slower than I’m used to. Less predictable. But I think that’s what growth is supposed to feel like.

So here’s a reminder to trust the process.
