Don’t make these wardrobe mistakes and a few tips on how to fix the problem!

Here are a few tips on what to wear for your next headshot photo. The full video is over on my YouTube channel.

Headshot photography is a very specific tool that’ll help you attract the right clientele or the right career opportunities.

Heads up photography is also a chance for you to have a really great experience and feel awesome.

As your Vancouver headshot Photographer, my goal is to make you feel confident and wardrobe is a huge part of that.

You need to feel authentic in your headshot photos.

There are, however, a couple things you might want to avoid in order to get the best headshot photos.

Because headshot photos are very up close and the point of a headshot photo is for people to recognize you and understand who you are and what you’re about, we don’t want any distractions from your face and your nonverbal communication.

Patterns, graphics, and logos are all a distraction from what you’re trying to communicate to people through your LinkedIn profile photo and your website, bio, and any other place that your headshot photo may be posted.

Why my favourite shirt from is a bad choice for headshots and what wardrobe change you can make for excellent headshots.

For real go check out their shirts are awesome! I own multiple

Specifically for Headshots however I recommend a solid colour shirt, a dress shirt or a T-shirt or a sweater. It should be a white shirt or a black shirt or purple shirt, yellow or green photographs really well.

You can still bring your favourite shirt with a heavy pattern to your headshot session, and we can try it, but I usually find that a solid colour shirt with no pattern, no graphics, or no logos, will photograph the best.

If we are doing more of a portrait style, maybe a full body shot or cowboy shot (knees up) or even a waste of shot a shirt like this would be amazing.

It also depends where you’re going to use your Headshots. Profile photos on phones like a LinkedIn profile photo is smaller than a dime. So I distractions are really going to take away from people recognizing you. It’s gonna work against you. But if the photo is being used for a web banner that will be displayed larger or a magazine ad or a billboard the shirt would probably be excellent.

Everything I need for a photo shoot in this box.

on one trolly I can fit this box, all my light stands, my photography background, my lighting, modifier, and my sandbags. Camera goes in a camera backpack.

I literally fit everything I need for my own Location Headshots in one car load, one elevator trip, on one trolly.

It doesn’t matter if I’m doing Headshots for one person or 200 people. This is what I bring to my headshot photography sessions.

What a wonderful experience providing team Headshots for

Headshot photos are more than a to-do list item. Headshots should be a great team experience. A highlight in somebody’s day.

We had so much fun working together, and I love how everybody’s headshot photo turned out!

Have you ever wondered why so many directors use the same actors over and over? Tim Burton and Johnny Depp or Wes Anderson and Bill Murray or Owen Wilson?

I feel honoured when clients choose to come back and get new photos from me.

Student nights and job fairs are the perfect opportunity for a headshot booth.

Student students and people are looking for jobs. Need Headshots more than anybody.

One of my favourite parts of my job is educating people what their headshot says about them. If you’re smiling way too big and maybe even laughing people may not take you seriously. So maybe depending on the role you want to get, you want to bring out your serious side.

If you are super young, you may want to look more confident and serious to prove to people that you are actually capable of doing your job.

But don’t worry because I teach you on the spot how to pose and bring up the expressions that will give you the best headshot photo for your goals.

I walk people through this on the spot and help them choose the right headshot for what they want to achieve.

This is behind the scenes video of my headshot Photo Booth at the CIM student night. This was an amazing opportunity for students and industry professionals to get together and network.

Thanks to FLS for providing a free headshot to anybody at the event who wanted one and I think that’s absolutely amazing.!
