On Sunday after visiting the Vancouver Art Gallery, my very favourite person in the world and I took a stroll through the adjacent Vancouver streets and headed towards the water front for a delicious lunch.

As we waited to cross the street the iconic Hotel Georgia loomed large. Opened on May 7, 1927; the architects were Robert T. Garrow and John Graham Sr. and the 12-storey brick building at the corner of Georgia and Howe is now a registered cultural site in Canada.

Through the years guests have included Nat King Cole, Elvis Presley, Louis Armstrong, John Wayne and Errol Flynn and the building is beautifully lit in the evening.

This is the is the stained glass bell tower of Vancouver's Christ Church Cathedral as viewed from Cathedral Square.

The 100ft spire is wrapped in stained glass on three sides and encloses four brass bells cast at the Paccard Bell Foundry of Annecy, France

The artistic glass, titled “Welcoming Light”, by Canadian artist Sarah Hall was made with locally sourced glass and was illuminated on November 17th, 2016 with the first ringing of the new bells.

I will have to be downtown one evening to see it illuminated in all its stunning colours.

Visited the Vancouver Art Gallery today with my lovely wife on Sunday.

We went to see their Emily Carr exhibit "That Green Idea: Emily Carr and the Idea of Nature" which at 100 works is their largest solo exhibition of her work at the in over 20 years.

If you go, take a wander upstairs to see other pieces from the extensive collection they hold.

This piece, "Bax’wana’tsi: The Container for Lost Souls, 2006:" by Marianne Nicolson is a remarkable glass, cedar and light installation that projects shadows created by the etched glass on to the walls of the room it is displayed in.

It's a breath taking experience to stand in the shadows the light box casts.

It's always nice to see Raven over on my Instagram feed. I gave the rights to these shots to the Museum of Anthropology at UBC some years ago along with others captured on subsequent visits.

Well worth the trip down to the MOA to see this masterpiece in all its warm cedar hues. Check it out if you get the chance.
