Laura Heerema Photography ~Just taking life in through the lens of the camera~

Inspired by natural ruggedness and beauty that we see everyday in Thunder Bay and area, I am always looking for something to photograph. From the tiniest water droplet to the vast sky filled with clouds and colour at sunrise and sunset, I love to capture it with my camera.

Hi, and welcome!

I'm happiest outdoors, exploring somewhere new or a place I've visited numerous times with my camera in hand. I love capturing the beauty of nature—from wildlife and wildflowers to landscapes and the little moments that catch my eye.

This page is where I share the places I've explored and the moments I've been fortunate enough to capture. I hope my photos inspire you to slow down, get outside, and appreciate the beauty that's all around us.

Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you'll enjoy following along on my journey!

Update:
Upon further investigation, this bird has been recognized as a hybrid Lazuli/Indigo bunting.
Thanks to Brian Ratcliff for determining this.
Regardless, it's still a pretty sweet find 📸

This morning we were out for a country drive, and we stopped so I could photograph some trees and fireweed. Out of the literal "blue" flew this little bird who caught my eye. He posed so perfectly in the various trees and plants for me...
I thought it was an Indigo bunting, but upon further investigation, we discovered it was a Lazuli Bunting which is very rare around here.
I was thrilled to capture these photos!

Today I unboxed two pieces of the same image, and seeing them in print reminded me why I love creating artwork that can be enjoyed every day.

One is a special-order 30" × 40" canvas for a friend, who seems to be building her own little Laura Heerema Photography gallery at home. I continue to be incredibly honoured and grateful that my work has found a place on her walls. ❤️

The other is a 12" × 18" photo board for my own home—because sometimes a favourite image deserves a spot where we can enjoy it too.

Green has always been my favourite colour, and this scene has completely captured my heart. 💚

If you've ever thought about turning one of my images into wall art for your home, I'd love to help you find the perfect piece. Prints and canvases are available in a variety of sizes to suit your space.

Ps- The old guy in the photo was posing...as much as he loves being outdoors, he's not a fan of AC and is not settled unless he's got his sweater on 🤷🏻‍♀️

Dear friends,

As we deal with the challenges of thick smoke in the city, many in surrounding communities are suffering the devastation of loss in so many ways.

Our hearts are with you all.

Please pray for rain.

It's a scorcher in Thunder Bay today! With expected temperatures forecasted close to 40C today...here's a throwback to just 6 months ago when it was around -30C. I remember on those frigid winter days wishing for heat...now I am reminded to be careful what you wish for!

What do you prefer? -30C or +30C?

We had the incredible opportunity this evening to view a beautiful fireworks display courtesy of Fort William First Nation. The fireworks were set off from the lookout on Mt. McKay.
