Set up for Halloween! Hope everyone has a safe night! Clear Skies!

78% Moon tonight! 🌙

Shining bring in our skies to the south. With each clear night a significant part of the moon is revealed. We have been so lucky to have a handful of nights in a row. Watching craters I couldn't see last night be revealed is such an awe inspiring feeling. Following the terminator line (the area transitioning from the dark side and light side of the moon) gives incredible contrast and depth to the new craters shown.

69% Moon! 🌙

Looks like we are going to have some clear skies for the next few hours. Binoculars are a great way to view the moon. I find leaning against something helps keep me stable when stargazing with them.

Tonight's seeing conditions are incredible. Very little atmospheric distortion. It still amazes me the things we can see from our back yards.

Take a look up!

We are at a beautiful 60% waxing gibbous moon tonight! 🌙

Witch's Broom Nebula

A target I come back to year after year. And perfectly named for the Halloween season. This is the remnant of a star that had gone supernova. When the star exploded, the materials that make up the star get ejected in all directions. It's amazing to see the filaments and strands of hydrogen and oxygen streak across the night sky. Catelogued as Caldwell 34, but goes by many names; Witch's Broom Nebula, Western Veil Nebula, Filamentary Nebula, Lacework Nebula, and I'm sure many more.

Now is the perfect time to be pointing the telescope up at Saturn. Saturn is in opposition (closest approach to Earth), so it will appear larger in your telescope. It's still fairly small on my set up but was amazed to see the seperation of the rings. The rings are angled approx. 7°, allowing lots of surface area of the rings to be shown.

Jupiter is shining right above the moon this morning

Did you get a chance to see the harvest moon?

This was my first attempt at a mineral moon. (bringing up the colour in the moon to emphasize the materials on the surface) I originally took over 21,000 photos of the moon but when I went to process my computer couldn't handle the abundance of data. So I attempted to stack only 10,000 photos into this 1 single shot. After my computer was screaming at 100% power for hours. It finally organized and stacked the photos.

While waiting for the moon to rise above my treeline, I decided to take a look at a galaxy 43 million light years away. A star has "recently" gone super nova and the light is finally washing over our planet.
