Another wonderful visit from a female Ruby throated hummingbird…make sure you watch to see the sweet surprise 🥰

Did you know …owls can turn their heads completely backwards and even further. They can rotate their heads up to 270 degrees in either direction—three-quarters of a full circle—allowing them to look directly behind their bodies. Why can they do this?
Unlike humans, owls have forward-facing eyes that are fixed rigidly in their skulls. To see their surroundings, they have to swivel their head. Owls also have 14 neck vertebrae(7 more than humans) granting them massive flexibility
This video of a Great Gray Owl, that I was observing, shows you exactly how flexible their neck is.
Check it out!!

Special moment #2 actually happened before the moose family discovery. This little one had been born just a short while before. My husband spotted this little one with its mama. He messaged me to grab my camera and when I got there, mama had left, but this little one was doing exactly what she told it to do which was to lay still, and do not move. If you see a fawn and you think it’s been abandoned, it’s likely just hanging out like it’s Mom told it to until she returns.
DO NOT MOVE a young fawn that you happen to come across. If you are concerned, make note of where it is and Contact Medicine River Wildlife Centre for advice.

Nights like these are so special…just a quiet spot beside the lake while Lady Aurora dances overhead. This image was taken shortly before dawn so you can really see the blue twilight in the sky.
