Heartland Regional Fire is holding a recruitment information night for residents interested in joining the department as paid on-call volunteer firefighters.

The session takes place on Sept. 2 at 7 p.m. at Heartland Station 1 in Stettler.

Join us on September 2nd at 1900hrs Station 1. Come out and see if becoming a paid on call firefighter is right for you! No commitment required. See the gear, see the rigs and equipment we use. Gain some knowledge on the types of skills and training you will learn. Ask questions and if it fits, take the opportunity to sign up for our upcoming recruit class starting end of September.

A central Alberta dragon boat team of breast cancer survivors made a splash in its debut at the Edmonton Dragon Boat Festival.

The weekend’s showcase event was the Breast Cancer Pink Ribbon Race, featuring four teams of breast cancer survivors.

Breasties in the Buff posted a time of 2:54.82, placing fourth in a tight photo finish just 1.6 seconds behind the winning crew.

Country music legend Dolly Parton has passed away at the age of 80.

The County of Stettler has taken the next step in restructuring its emergency services, authorizing formal notice to establish a new fire commission following an unwinding of its shared operations with the Town of Stettler.

At the Aug. 12 meeting, the county council directed administration to advertise a notice of motion to create the Heartland Regional Fire Commission.

Forever Canadian RV Stops in Stettler For Unity Tour

A campaign urging Albertans to stay in Canada made a stop in Stettler on July 31, ahead of the upcoming October vote on the province’s future.

Thomas Lukaszuk of the Forever Canadian movement spoke to a crowd of roughly 50 people gathered near the train station and P&H elevator in Stettler.

The event also drew local independence supporters prompting a civil exchange on federal legislation, free speech and provincial sovereignty.

Hometown Media Stettler interviewed both sides to hear their perspectives ahead of the October 19 referendum.
