What we give doesn't always return, but what we give is always what we are.
I read this yesterday and thought about my role as a parent. About showing up, often imperfectly.
About that feeling that sometimes I'm pouring myself out, being vulnerable, and being met with nothing, or worse, disdain.
But I keep trying. Keep showing up. I keep giving, not for the return. For who I become in the giving.

I've always lived inland, far from the ocean. Sometimes I feel a bit sad about that, as there is something about it that is so captivating to me. The smell of salty air, the tides rolling across rocky shorelines, all of it occupying a place in my heart. Perhaps it is something primordial. Maybe I'm just a hopeless romantic, and those faraway places feel so much more special because of my fleeing time with them.
