One day, your portraits should not be buried in a folder called “downloads.”

They should be on your walls. In your home. Part of your everyday life.

We’ve recently shifted our portrait experience at In Spades Imagery to focus on printed artwork instead of digital-only packages, because we believe your images deserve to be seen, displayed, and enjoyed.

Every printed piece still includes a matching web-resolution digital file for sharing online, but the final goal is something more lasting: beautifully framed artwork created for your home, office, or personal space.

Most people walk into a portrait session bracing themselves. Stiff shoulders, rehearsed smile, chin slightly too high.

The real portrait begins the moment that guard comes down. When the light catches something genuine in the eyes and the expression shifts from "ready" to present.

We craft our sessions around that exact transition. Dramatic lighting does the heavy lifting visually, but the patience to wait for an authentic moment is what separates a portrait from a photograph.

After 12 years of creating heirloom portraits in Ottawa, we've learned that the most striking images almost never come from the first ten minutes. They come from the space where a person stops performing and starts simply being.
