🎬 THEATRE WAKEFIELD'S "LOCAL HEROES" FILMMAKING CAMP

Want to try filmmaking? Join local filmmaker Savanna Oliver for a week of writing, directing, filming, and editing your own short documentary about a local hero.
Savanna has taught filmmaking from Nunavut to the Gatineau Hills and believes everyone has a story worth telling.

From filming our mini doc series Art to Heart, to covering our events at our gallery and beyond, creating her own films including Trails and Trials, capturing special moments for folks across our region, as well as providing workshops to share her knowledge and skillset with budding filmmakers, Savanna has been enriching and empowering communities through film in a down-to-earth and accessible way around the clock for some time now (lucky us!). Workshops are in English. Francophone and bilingual youth are welcome to interview a local hero in French and create their film in French.

Envie d'essayer le cinéma? Joignez-vous à la cinéaste Savanna Oliver pour une semaine de création où les jeunes apprendront à écrire, réaliser, filmer et monter leur propre court documentaire sur un héros ou une héroïne d'ici.

Savanna enseigne le cinéma du Nunavut aux collines de la Gatineau et croit que chaque personne a une histoire à raconter.

Les ateliers se déroulent en anglais. Les jeunes francophones et bilingues sont les bienvenus et peuvent réaliser leur film en français.

With decades of experience living and breathing art—teaching children, exhibiting widely, designing murals and public installations, and building mixed media sculptures—Lisa brings an authenticity and raw energy to her work, grounded in both solitude and creative exploration.

Lisa Thomas crée des récits visuels évocateurs qui explorent toute la gamme de l’expérience humaine—du côté profond et étrange au ridicule et au tragique. Travaillant en peinture, sculpture, techniques mixtes et installations, elle utilise chaque œuvre pour raconter des histoires plutôt que de simplement illustrer, invitant les spectateurs à se plonger dans la complexité de ses sujets. Join the 100 Mile Arts Network for an inspiring evening celebrating the culmination of our Community Arts Café series. These free workshops have brought community members together to explore diverse art forms, and now it is time to showcase the incredible work produced by our participants and mentors.

This special event highlights the vibrant arts ecology of the Outaouais, bridging the gap between artists and the public to reduce isolation and build a stronger, more connected creative community.

The Community Arts Café is a core program of the 100 Mile Arts Network designed to provide free, accessible arts programming to the public.
