I got to do the sweetest little in-home baby session last month, and it’s still on my mind.
In-home sessions for babies and newborns are some of my favourite; people tend to feel more comfortable at home, and it shows. But one of my favourite parts is connecting with the mom’s I get to photograph in these sessions.
We talked about postpartum and all the changes women go through during this time; how challenging it is to find clothes that fit well in the months after giving birth, and how hard it is to feel comfortable in your own skin again (especially with a camera pointing at you).
I always try to create images that capture mom’s in a way they can be proud of when they look at them. Capturing not just their physical appearance, but everything else too; the impact of their presence on their family, the way they light up the room, how their baby looks at them and them back at their baby, their strength and resilience.
Postpartum isn’t easy for many, but I hope that my images help show these moms (even just a little bit) just how amazing they are.
