Left Māhia Peninsula at 6:30 this morning, heading for the Gisborne NZMCA Park.

The plan was to spend the morning working from the park before heading off to a friend's place, where she's celebrating her 50th birthday tomorrow. 🎉

What a beautiful morning in Gisborne! The sun was shining, the weather was fantastic, and the NZMCA Park was a lot busier than I expected.

Not a bad place to set up the office for a few hours!

Opoutama Beach Reserve on the Māhia Peninsula was our next freedom camping spot, and wow, what a location!

Even more spectacular than our previous stop at Oraka Reserve, with heaps more room, plenty of parking options and the beautiful beach just a stone’s throw away.

A fantastic spot to park up Neo, relax and enjoy the stunning coastal scenery. Definitely one of those places you could happily stay a little longer!

Next stop was Pilot Hill Carpark in Wairoa for the night.

Located right on the estuary, it’s a fantastic waterfront camping spot for self-contained vehicles, with lovely views across the water.

There’s also an off-lead dog area, which is perfect for our four-legged travelling companions, and the public toilets were spotlessly clean.

A great little spot to park up for the night.

It’s been almost two years since my last visit to Lake Tūtira, and this time it was Neo’s first adventure here.

Knowing the access road is quite narrow, with only a couple of passing bays, I got my friend Becs to head in first and hold any oncoming traffic while I made my way through.

Being Labour Weekend, the campsite was already bustling with campers making the most of the long weekend. Luckily, we managed to find ourselves a nice spot, and got settled in for the next few days.

Theo’s back with his mum for a month while I head up to Gisborne.

After all our adventures together, it’s going to feel a little strange travelling without my little co-pilot. Enjoy your time, mate. See you in a month!

Spring Grove Reserve & Hall POP – A Hidden Little Gem!

An early morning departure from Murchison, with spectacular fog-filled valleys over Hope Saddle, a delicious bakery stop in Wakefield, and finally arriving at Spring Grove Reserve & Hall.

What a fantastic little Park Over Property! Plenty of space, peaceful surroundings, firm ground despite recent rain, and wonderfully quiet, dark nights.

No facilities, but at just $5 per night, it's an absolute bargain! 👌
