At 85… Alice Matzkin began again. 🎨

After decades of painting realistic portraits, American artist Alice Matzkin took a completely different artistic path. She turned toward abstraction, allowing color and line to flow more freely.

But behind this transformation was a painful story. In the California wildfires of 2017, Alice lost nearly 100 of her artworks.

Yet she didn’t stop.

Instead, at the age of 85, she began a new artistic chapter—proving that a true artist never stops exploring, no matter how late in life.

Sometimes, a new beginning doesn’t come at the start of life… but after we think everything is over. ❤️🎨

Ponderings from the artist within myself: Normal just isn't something I could ever be proud of. Duplication of a style or signature work for the intent of monetization simply doesn't appeal to me. I can't jump through those hoops. So I will not be a successful artist in terms of being known for a particular style. I just want to paint and occasionally sell some work. Really all I can hope for is that I will overcome my challenges and gain a sense of accomplishment from being able to see my own progress to feel that I've moved forward as an artist. And what that means is being able to dig deep and express myself onto the canvas. So I'm going to keep painting until I achieve satisfaction for my own personal success.

Framing is truly a way to highlight an art piece. Unfortunately, it's pricey.
