For years I wanted a sternum tattoo. And for years I didn’t get one, because somewhere in my head I’d decided it wasn’t for a body like mine. No one would see it. People my size didn’t have them.

I didn’t even know I believed that until one summer at beach day, when a woman showed up with one. Not thin, not plus size, just a woman who loved her tattoo. I told her it was gorgeous. She said, “Thanks, I love it too.”

My next tattoo was that one.

Here’s what I know now: you don’t always realize you’re waiting for permission until you see someone else take it.

So consider this your permission slip. Whatever it is you’ve been telling yourself isn’t for a body like yours, I’d love to hear what it is. 🤍
