Look closely at that eye! 👁️
No it’s not damage or a cataract, this bird’s eye is perfectly fine. What you are seeing is the nictitating membrane, a semi-transparent third eyelid that sweeps across to protect and clean the eye while this lovely golden eagle keeps watching the world. Birds of prey blink with it constantly, but it moves fast enough that you almost never catch it.
This female golden eagle gave me maybe a fraction of a second. Pro Capture on the OM-1 by omsystem.americas makes the difference buffering frames before I even fully ores the shutter so you can grab tough shots like this one.
I absolutely love catching these moments that we sometimes don’t see with our naked eye!
