One of those mornings where getting up early actually pays off.
I took this while cross-country skiing in the Jura above Geneva. The entire valley had disappeared underneath a sea of clouds, while the Alps were catching the first warm light of the day.
Conditions like this happen when colder air gets trapped down in the valley beneath warmer air above, it’s a temperature inversion. From Geneva it can just look like a grey, cloudy winter morning. Get high enough, though, and this is what can be waiting above it.
Definitely one of my favourite things about winter in this part of Switzerland.
