The Green Jay measures roughly 20 to 32 cm long, South American populations feature brilliant green upperparts, vivid yellow underparts, a black throat and head patch, and bright blue markings on the crown and sides of the head. Males and females look identical.

The collared inca is a species of hummingbird found in humid Andean forests from western Venezuela through Colombia and Ecuador to Peru. It is very distinctive in having a white chest-patch and white on the tail.

The black-billed mountain toucan (Andigena nigrirostris) lives in the humid highland and montane forests along the Andes mountains in Colombia. Found at altitudes ranging from 1,500 to 3,200 meters above sea level.

The Chestnut Wood-quail is a chickenlike bird, it is bright rufous on the face and underparts and brown above. Female is similar to male but rufous more restricted to the upper breast with contrasting gray belly. Also note slight crest, stout bill, and some bare gray skin around the eye. Uncommon in cloud forest of western Colombia. Shy and difficult to see; stays in small groups on the forest floor and rarely comes out in the open. Listen for rollicking whistled song, similar to other wood-quail.

The female Andean cock-of-the-rock (Rupicola peruvianus) in Colombia is a dull, rich brown bird with a smaller crest and a distinct staring pale eye, providing camouflage in the dark cloud forests.

TheBlack-chested Jay is a striking jay with mostly black head and throat, deep indigo upperparts, and contrasting white belly. Long tail with white tip. Pale eye. Sexes alike.

The bicolored antpitta (Grallaria rufocinerea) is a medium-sized bird nearly endemic to the Central Andes of Colombia. It features a bright chestnut-red head and upperparts contrasting with a gray breast and belly. This shy forest-floor dweller inhabits high-elevation cloud forests between 1,900 and 3,150 meters.

The King Vulture is famous for its bright, multi-colored head, a fleshy orange bump on its beak called a caruncle, and striking white-and-pinkish body plumage. Unlike most other vultures, it has the strongest bill of any New World species, allowing it to tear open tough animal hides that other scavengers cannot pierce.

The Central American Pygmy-Owl is a very small owl of humid evergreen forest in tropical lowlands that is active during the day. Favors forest canopy where it is rarely seen, but sometimes hunts low at forest edges. Most often detected by its tooting call, given at any time of day but mainly early and late. Like other pygmy-owls, presence often revealed by mobbing bands of small songbirds.
