Interesting thing I noticed recently. I am selling my Fujinon 14mm f2.8 Wide Angle Lens on Kijiji. I realize that I may not get as many "Views" for this lens as would a 23mm or 35mm lens but, I think that once they read that it is a cash ONLY and local ONLY deal at a local police station's "Buy & Sell Safe Zone", not so many scam artists are inquiring ...
Usually I would have a few low ballers inquiring by now.
Maybe I'll post in a Fujifilm Market Place here on Facebook as well in the meantime I'll post the link in the comments.

DeepPRIME XD3 X-Trans for Fujifilm X Photographers

With this latest release, DeepPRIME XD3 X-Trans is out of the Beta Phase and fully functional including expanded support for Fujifilm's 5th generation sensors. This is amazing news for Fujifilm X Photographers.

The image in this article was shot on my Fujifilm X-T4 and XF23mm F1.4R lens at ISO 160 - 1/800 sec @ f5.6

I have been using DxO's PureRAW 5 for the last few months and I have to say that this is the best piece of software for Demosaicing and reducing noise in your Raw files produced by your camera that I have tried out.

This image was captured at ISO 6400 and as you can see in the split window of the PureRAW 5 interface, the results are truly amazing. Not only is the noise reduced beautifully but the detail extracted is well, stunning to say the least.

So I was up early this morning, for one reason or another, and I decided to hunt through a randomly chosen folder from way back in time, 2007 to be exact, and I came across some images taken on a trip up to Tobermory.

This particular image is a combination of 3 hand held vertical shots to test out Photoshop's Photomerge feature.

Using this technique allowed me to create a larger image that I cropped square. As I was going through all of this I started to think that it might look good in black & white.

I am also thinking of toning this black & white print digitally in a somewhat similar fashion that Ansel Adams did in the wet darkroom. Ansel Adams put his gallery prints through a selenium toning bath process as a final touch.

If you are seriously interested in learning more about this digital toning process, drop me a line.

In my quest to attempt to organize my hockey photo collections that were originally edited in Adobe Lightroom, I happened across a series of an AHL game between the Toronto Marlies and the St John's Ice Caps and in particular St John's goalie, Zach Fucale before he was assigned to the ECHL Brampton Beast where I was one of the team photographers.

Because there was some noise in these images, I decided to see how DxO PhotoLab would handle them. In this article I discuss the various Noise Reduction options in version 5 and in a later article I will discuss some of my other findings.

The Map Module in Lightroom Classic:

What is the actual purpose of the Map Module in Lightroom Classic? I have Googled this question several timesaver the years and always end up with the same search results. Which you can see in the attached screen shot. I have to admit, for the most part, I don’t get it. The recurring search result is “It’s something fun to do in Lightroom”. Well, if that is the main purpose, I am not interested in it. But … and there is always a but.

If I am contracted by the Tourism Dept of any Government be it local, Provincial/State or Country, to photograph tourist attractions or conservation areas to name two uses, I would have to either have a GPS option in my camera or the ability to add those GPS coordinates after capture … otherwise I will not get that contract.

Government tourism departments of any level like to promote their areas of interest to potential visitors from all over the world. And when they post an article which include photographs, they want the reader to be able to see on a map, usually Google’s map, where in fact that tourist attraction is located.

That’s one example of the business aspect of this Lightroom feature, people in general, when out on a hike for example with their camera ( or smart phone), like to tell their friends about their venture and want them to know exactly where they were.

The one thing you don’t want to do is include this information when photographing family members for obvious safety reasons so during the export process at the bottom of the dialog, there is a check box to exclude this or any other metadata information.

Here is another example where I would want to include the GPS coordinates; if I am working on a photo series of Lighthouses in Ontario, I would want this information included so those people that I choose to share this collection with will know where one is located in case they as well would like to visit them.

So my question now is; Who actually uses this feature? And for what purpose?

This is yet another testament to the high quality of the FujiFilm X-Series cameras and lenses. In this case I was shooting using the FujiFilm X-T4 with the 16mm f2.8 Fujinon lens.

This image was taken of Mitch Marner #16 of the Toronto Maple Leafs during warm-ups before the game started. I was just testing a few things beforehand so I would be ready for when the game started. I was just assigned my seating and had to shoot through the glass as there are no camera/lens portals here.

I am posting the original image shot and the cropped version just to give some perspective of how much I did crop this image. The resolving power of the Fujinon line up of lenses combined with FijiFilm’s X-Trans sensor is nothing short of “wah” … to quote the Hyundai car commercials.

This is yet another NHL 2022 Heritage Classic image of Craig Anderson sprawling and diving backwards in an attempt to prevent #25 Ondřej Kaše of the Toronto Maple Leafs from scoring a goal. Unfortunately for Anderson, he wasn’t able to get back in time. Ondřej Kaše scores the opening goal in the second period of the game.

I am going to post some NHL images here that I shot for ProHockeyNews.com.

Every once in a while I get asked to cover some of the more unique NHL events that are somewhat local. Like the NHL Scouting Combine (Buffalo), The NHL 100 Classic (Ottawa) and most recently The 2022 NHL Heritage Classic (Hamilton).

I will start off with a few from that game and then post more from the other events/games. Later on.

This first one is from the The 2022 NHL Heritage Classic where the Toronto Maple Leafs played against the Buffalo Sabres. All of the media outlets that have a higher readership than the blog I shoot for get the prime shooting places that actually have the photographer portals to shove their camera lenses through and and guys like myself get to shoot through the plexiglass from behind the goalies - well, off to the side a bit.

The first time I was placed there (Ottawa), I wasn't particularly pleased because I never shoot from that angle but once things got started, I realized that I was getting shots that nobody else was.

This first one is of Craig Anderson of the Buffalo Sabres playing the puck almost behind the net. Oh and by the way, these are all in black & white. We will have to see how poorly FB renders my images …….

Shot using my FujiFilm X-T4 and my Fujinon FX 23mm f1.4 R lens
