When bo***ir images are first taken it can be easy to view them through the weight of everything we're carrying at the current moment. Notice the things we'd still like to change, the insecurities that feel impossible to ignore.
But time has a way of softening the things that once felt so important. The insecurities lose their grip and one day you find yourself looking back at those same photographs with entirely different eyes. Suddenly you aren't fixated on the details you once couldn't stop seeing. I think that's what makes bo***ir so meaningful.
One day, if you're lucky enough to reach eighty years old, these won't simply be bo***ir photographs. They'll be a doorway back to a younger version of yourself. You'll remember the season you were in, the way your body carried you through it, the courage it took to step in front of the camera, and the woman who was still learning to see herself with a little more kindness.
The photograph won't have changed. Your body may have, your life certainly will have, but the woman in that image will still be there, patiently waiting for you to return to her.
I'm willing to bet that eighty-year-old you won't be wishing your stomach had been flatter or your skin a little smoother. She'll simply be grateful that someone preserved a version of herself that memory was never going to hold onto forever.
