I bought my first proper DSLR in 2016 because I thought it would be cool to document a few of the places I was seeing while chasing winters between New Zealand and Canada.
Turns out I got a little carried away.
New Zealand was where I really learned how to use a camera. Landscapes, snowboarding, kea, stars and anything else that gave me an excuse to take it out of the bag. Night photography in particular became a bit of an obsession.
Pretty much every type of photo you see here was me figuring it out for the first time. Learning settings, making mistakes, trying again and slowly working out what I liked about photography and how I wanted my photos to look.
I remember this period incredibly fondly. I went to New Zealand to work as a snowboard instructor and bought a camera to document the experience. Somewhere along the way, photography became as much a part of the experience as the snowboarding itself.
Ten years later, Iโm still carrying a camera around because of it.
I think it might be time to get back to New Zealand and see what I can do with everything Iโve learned since. ๐ณ๐ฟ
